Sicilian Food and Wine

An all-sea food menu featured smoked and marinated fish, shrimp in Marsala sauce, other standards such as spaghetti vongole. Entirely Sicilian winecard with many very reasonably priced choices. Local clientele, a good sign.

By now we'd learnt the quantities to order to suit ourselves - order contorni if you want veg - and Osteria Seby obliged by providing dishes to match our actual requirements. In a warmly decorated arched room with copper ducting for the A/C (not needed in the winter) we had the classic Sicilian antipasti and two scallopini. All are recommended.... More

Great food, gorgeous place, super friendly service, medium prices but well worth it. Super friendly service AND - our waiter also happened to make the best caipirinha cocktail I tasted, barring ones made by true Brazilians. We had the seafood antipasti, seafood risotto, siracusa pasta and baked ricotta and chocolate Impinata (?) for dessert - all were good, that pasta... More

New Year's Eve menu for 60 euro a person, loads of food but weird combo's (black risotto with basil pesto) and not always warm (ravioli). The second dishes were the worst (fried sea fruits on caponata) and cotechino with lentils. Ok appetizers shrimps in yoghurt. Smoked fish ok. Best was the dessert!

We were here two years ago and had a fantastic zuppa di pesce. We came back today and had an average meal (the zuppa di pesce no longer on the menu)--averaging the very good risotto with seafood and an extremely disappointing mixed grill: very overdone prawns and slice of swordfish and a small overdone whole fish. My husband's frittura di... More

During our visit most of the other diners seemed to be Sicilian families enjoying Sunday dinner. There was an excellent selection of seafood and pasta with Sicilian sauces, as well as other items and a fine selection of local wines. We wanted to return for a second dinner, but unfortunately the osteria was not open on our last day in... More

Very colourful, family run restuarant. We hadn't made a booking and were fortunate to get there early and given the only table available. There weren't many people when we arrived, but, within an hour, the entire restaurant was full. We had very good traditional, home cooked style food. We thoroughly enjoyed this. We felt at home. And furthermore what caught... More

This is clearly a very popular restaurant. We hadn't booked and had to come back an hour later for dinner. But when we did get seated the food we had was excellent. Because the restaurant was so full the staff were under pressure but they dealt with it well. One more member of waiting staff would have helped a lot.

Osteria da Seby isn't that vegetarian friendly, but if you are willing to try fish, this is the place that can crown your vacation at Ortigia. Very, very special place. The food is so good we didn't really talk there at all. Service so professional & quick & sharp, that it's an art form. We tried fantasy fish and oven... More
