Great experience

This is a cozy restaurant right in the middle of everything. We explained to the waiter that we are vegetarians, and she was very helpful with telling us what we should order. We ordered the vegetable anti pasti plate which had a nice selection of vegetables cooked in various ways. All... read more

I should have reviewed this restaurant last autumn when we visited. A friend is going to Syracuse soon and has just asked us for recommendations. We ate very well most nights but I realise that this was the restaurant that has stuck in my mind. The food was absolutely simple and absolutely perfect. And best of all, after many many... More

This place is of a very good level food-speaking, at least I have tried caponata of tuna - and it was extremely good. But why on Earth a place with a good reputation would lower its standards with bad wine? We have asked for two glasses of inzolia: the wine tasted not good, apparently open a couple of days before.... More

Ortigia is a city of contrasts from the most Baroque grandeur of Piazza del Duomo to narrow side streets that lead off other narrow side streets from which can be seen even narrower ones. One such street is Via Cavour packed with eating places and genuine craft shops. Here we had a drink in La Gazza Ladra and booked for... More

After a week of so-so culinary experiences in Siracusa's old town, I followed my hosts' advice and went to this entirely non-script little trattoria. Mixed feelings - it's on the pedestrian main drag, via Cavour, yet it is Ortigia's only restaurant carrying a Slow Food label. I found that intriguing! If you come early - at 6 - you'll be... More

We came to this little osteria based on Slow Food Osteria guide book. Usually it never steers us wrong. I have to say this one is the exception. We ordered the oven roasted artichoke special, pasta alla Palermitana and Calamari soup. The artichokes were baked with breadcrumbs and they did not trim off much of the outer layers so the... More

Seems like a nice cosy place, but the food didn't turn out all that great. My girlfriend had a very nice orange-fennel salad, the rest I don't even remember that well. The wine I ordered was not there, the replacement not so great. My girlfriend liked the place quite well, but I just wasn't so impressed.

This is the best home cooked meal I've eaten in Sicily. Marchello recommended the to no with peppers when we were there last night. Previously we only shared a piccolo Antipasti but tonight was the full McCoy and boy was it good. People it was GOOD. If you do not want to be disappointed please book in advance.

During this visit to Syracuse we were rather determined to eat our dinner in Gazza Ladra, as upon previous one we were dissapointed to learn it opens only for dinner (which sadly was not an option as we were with a baby and had to go back to Taormina). This time we slept on Ortigia, and have booked the table.... More
