We had high expectations for this restaurant, based on reviews we read. Our disappointment started even before we entered the restaurant, as we passed smelly garbage bins just outside the entrance. Although the pictures are of the restaurant look lovely, the lighting in the restaurant needs major improvement. It desperately needs sconces or other indirect lighting; instead, it's overhead candelabras... More

Lovely ambience but frankly a little too pompous for our taste. Not great value for money and full of well heeled travellers. Not our most authentic experience from our time in Siracusa. More entertaining dining experiences available.

Although the restaurant was busy the food was very strange and over seasoned. I enjoy trying new tastes but this was just weird. There was no atmosphere and the waiting staff were efficient rather than friendly. An eclectic mix of customers made for plenty to talk about. Expensive for what it delivered.

I called in at about 4 p.m. to make a table booking for 8:30 that evening, so our reservation was very "last minute". The man who took my booking was charming, with a wry sense of humour. When we arrived, the very experienced staff seemed instantly able to "sum up"-- just by looking at us-- what sort of budget THEY... More

Had a most agreeable lunch here and found the food to be most excellent, in fact likely the best meal I had in Sicily. The food is upscale but with local touches. The wine selection is massive and all of wine I do not know. The owner was most helpful and recommended some very tasty juice!

The waiters were not very friendly or helpful in our ordering of food or wine. I would even go so far as to say they were hostile towards us. The food was too complicated for my taste and fussy in a bad way. The combinations of ingredients did not do the food justice.

We had an excellent meal at Don Camillo. The food and service were first rate. After so much (excellent) seafood in Sicily it was great to find somewhere that the carnivores among us could indulge. Both the boar and the veal were superb. The staff was accommodating in indulging our wish for a salad starter that was not on the... More

We visit Ortigia and Don Camillo annually and I see it is two years since my last review. Nothing here has changed: it is formal, professional and quite expensive by Ortigia standards - €45 each, but is aiming higher than most and succeeding. In particular nowhere else we have found caters for meat-eaters who want quality Italian dishes. Pork, sourced... More

The food was a culinary delight. The service was efficient and moved in a timely fashion. The waiters took time to explain the preparation of the dishes. The head waiter took the time to select a wine that enhanced the dishes. And the desserts that want with 5 course meal was breathtaking. I was not sure what to expect but... More
