Taste of Palermo

I went to this place with friends to try tipycal food, I had some Stigghiole and Panelle while most of the friends with me decide to go for the Meusa with and without ricotta cheese. The food was very good and also the outside seating area.

"Pane con la milza" or spleen sandwich is a great tradition in this part of Sicily. Here they serve it with a slice of Ricotta below and a sprinkling of cheese (primo sale perhaps?) on top. It's an acquired taste but excellent. Service can sometimes be slow as it can often be very busy, bear that in mind. Otherwise a... More

We had made a reservation based on 'Slow Food' recommendation but were sadly let down. The service was indifferent ( but very quick!) the food was just warm and the 4 dishes were nothing special and then we were presented with a bill from another table (more expensive). The setting was lovely but not nice enough to compensate for the... More

Following hot on the trail of AnthonyBourdain, we found this venerable establishment not far from our apt on Via Roma. Wehad a couple of glasses of wine, caponata, and of course the veal spleen and cheese sandwich. My wife wasn't impressed with the sandwich, but I would recommend it. Alas, not for thefirsttime my Italian managed to irritate every waiter... More

The service was consistently slow and grumpy, but it gives the place its charm. We loved the traditional vibe and small, cheap snacks, and we kept coming back for small bites during our whole stay in Palermo. My favourite: involtini with aubergine and pumpkin.

The first restaurant I had with a group of friends when we arrived in Palermo. The atmosphere is magic we ate in the terrasse but we waited more than 45 min to be served and when we received the food was too greasy too heavy. The only dish that was worth it was the pasta Al sugo the tomato was... More

We had seen the name on all guidebooks so we headed there soon after we arrived in Palermo. We reserved a table in the upstairs restaurant which was empty when we arrived around 8pm. But soon the place filled up, downstairs the take away area was so crowded we had difficulty finding an opening to get out. The little piazza... More

This place is worth searching out for, for its history, its traditional food, and its guts. One of the first businesses to stand up to mafia intimidation, it stood to lose a lot but the brother owners stuck to their principles. But you don't come here just for the legend: the décor, service and street type snack food make it... More
