Wonderful waitstaff

On our recent tour of Southern Italy, we found many eating establishments with waitstaff in the doorways, menus in hand, beckoning us to dine there. At Gigi Mangia, instead of menus they held platters with fresh fish, beautiful filets of beef, and a fleshy mound of red tuna! We yielded to that... read more

We actually had two dinners here. First was on the night of arrival and nothing was open before 8 and we bumped into this one and hostess was very warm and seated us right away. Of course we were the lone table for some time until the other guests joined us. It is situated in a main thoroughfare but it... More

The menu and the prices are not affixed outside of the restaurant so you have to get a table before you can eventually discover the prices... and you will be quite surprised. Compared to other restaurants in the neighbourhood, they are relatively high. But then you think to yourself that the quality may follow... but it won't... Special mention to... More

We enjoyed our meals but felt a little rushed to place our orders before absorbing the menu on offer. Perhaps Gigi wanted us to eat what he thought best for the kitchen. The service overall was good and we would give it another try.

This was our first meal in Palermo as recommended by our hotel. The food was quite fabulous. We shared a plate called something like "Horizontal tasting of how not to cook tuna." This consisted of 6 cubes of beautiful raw or seared tuna in various dressings. For the mains, we had a very fresh dentice (many bones - expertly fileted)... More

This restaurant was recommended by a friend in Milan. We had a fabulous dinner. Everything was fresh and creative. We had an amazing squid appetizer and excellent pasta and prawn entrees. Our waitress helped us pick out a wonderful bottle of wine at reasonable cost. The space is small but charming and the outside seating is lovely.

This restaurant really deserves 3 1/2 stars but it is rounded up to 4 since trip advisor does not have that ranking. The food which is fresh but simple and does not deserve more than 3 stars. But the ambiance makes up for it with impeccable swift service and a roaming owner who seems to be friends with every local... More

We dined here twice and were impressed by the varied selections on the menu and wine list which were reasonably priced for this type of dining in Palermo. Although located on a very busy piazza with the attendant tourists, the presence of many locals in the restaurant was notable. The stuffed squid was excellent as were our other choices -... More

Ate based on recommendations of the staff - all excellent Sicilian choices - but the best was the cannoli - wow what a delicious desert...
