You only eat what is on the menu that day. Pasta col macco, potato croquettes and pesce stocco are a must, a real pleasure indeed. Maccheroni alla norma aren't any less and portions are big. Full house, and we quickly discovered why. Superb atmosphere, local clientele, fantastic food, ordered by the waiters from the table by shouting to 'Mamma' in the kitchen. I would advise anyone passing through Messina to make an effort to find this trattoria - you'll love it. We certainly did !!!!!!!!

Charming, lively place. Owners and staff are very warm, inviting people. And the food is amazing. We arrived late (8:30) on a Tuesday evening, and had one of the best meals here from our whole trip in Sicily. The house wine was also wonderful. Antipasti, primi, secondi, and a full bottle of wine for 30 euro!! When we left around... More

This was a fantastic dining experience! It's a lively, bustling restaurant, full of locals. There is no menu, the waiters just give you a couple of choices for each course, but everything was absolutely delicious and the food kept coming! The waiters were friendly and down-to-earth and not at all pushy. It was really enjoyable and really good value.

Authentic, fresh & pure flavours. Just delicious. I am often out at lunch/dinner for work (All over Italy), so I highly appreciated that everything was just >100%, wine also!

I can't improve on some of the previous comments; it certainly is "loud, fast, fun and crazy"! The place takes a bit of finding, and is quite a walk from the main square, but it is worth it. There is a menu, but you eat what is fresh that day. We had fried mixed fish starters (octopus, squid, shrimps and... More

Al Padrino in Messina was a first place, where I ate fresh seafood during my 3-weeks long trip on Sicily. It was unbeatable. It is very local, simple, stamping and loud place. Service is loud, fast, fun and crazy. We had starters, two dihses (fish), beer, two glasses of wine, cannolis, some desserts wine for 40EUR for two! Everything fresh,... More

The food was great, the atmosphere fun, we were treated very well. This is the type of place you want to go to when travelling - a true 'local' experience. We liked the size of the portions because it allowed us to get an antipasti, primi and secondi.

For those who appreciate white table cloths and tuxedoed wait staff, pass this one right by. However, for those who appreciate authentic Sicilian food (yes, it's different than Italian) served to you by the owner after a song-like greeting when you walk in, this is the place for you. You will be given a quick whirlwind tour of all the... More
