Great seafood and friendly environment

We had dinner in Tratoria Il mare ( admittedly a very early dinner at 1930 for Sicilian standards) so we were on our own in the restaurant. The waiter was very friendly and explained all dishes to us. We had clams, fried calamari and octopus salad. All the entres were delicious, bursting with... read more

A nice restaurant in the heart of Catania, close-by 'Piazza Stesicoro'. Good fresh seafood is served here, however there is too much oil in their presentation. Therefore good but average dinner in town; in my opinion dishes are over-seasoned. Average menu-selection offering local cuisine. Not my favorite ambient, friendly staff. As usual this is my subjective opinion only. PS Their... More

Had a fantastic lunch here. Chose restaurant after reading other good reviews and we weren't disappointed. Definitely worth a visit. The fish was superb and very fresh. The house white was good and all at a very reasonable price.

You wouldn't really go to this good family run restaurant by chance, as it is bit hidden in a quiet street just a block away from the major Via Etna. I followed the TripAdvisor reviews and was glad to have done so. If you are hungry, not picky, if you like eating seafood and try new types of fishes, I... More

Our hostel recommended the restaurant as the best place to eat fish in Catania and they were right. The food was delicious and cheap. The stuff was friendly.

The service and value were excellent! My seafood linguine was only 9 euros and packed with clams, mussels, calamari and shrimps. The wine was only 1.50 euros for 0.25 L which amounts to 3 small glasses of wine (normally 3 euros each in most places). The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was I found my pasta... More

Nice food, inexpensive that gave every appearance of being home cooked and prepared. Nice and fresh, very tasty. Not busy, but it was a quiet Thursday night in town and nowhere else was either. Friendly waiter.

Both food and service was exceptional. We highly recommend this restaurant. Our server, Fabio, was so attentive and his father, Gaetano, who is owner and chef made us a most fabulous meal. It is not to be missed if you are in Catania. We will definitely return.

Hidden in a little back street in Catania, Sicily, lies the family run fish restaurant Trattoria Il Mare. As it was recommended by a friend I went there in search of authentic sicilian cuisine, and was more than pleasantly surprised. This is a place that makes you feel welcome with its warm and attentive service. The food is what it... More

My favourite meal I've had in Sicily (I've been living at a cookery school for 3 months). We were the first ones in and the last ones out. The atmosphere and décor was average, but the quality and simplicity of the food was exquisite. It was also a pleasure to be served by a young man who seemed so committed,... More
