Expensive but worth it for the experience

Our second time visiting Florian's for afternoon tea. It is hugely indulgent but the whole experience is very special with waiters dressed as admirals rushing between tables. Yes, its very expensive but get a table on the inside near the window and just watch the world walk by.

If you sit in a comfortable chair at Cafe Florian you can witness the life of Venice as well as the hustle and bustle of curious tourists. A coffee is a must, but ice cream can be a treat.

The bar inside is a third of the price, but you have to drink your drink in the bar. The cafe tables in the square often have live music.

We ordered lunch and sat out in St. Marks Square. They don't serve salad and such outside, so we ordered sandwiches, desserts, and drinks. I wanted to try the spritz also. All were good. The service was a bit temperamental. Initially, the server didn't like the amount of order, so he was curt even rude. But as we decided to... More

The only thing nice i may say about this place is the architecture ( that you may see it if you pass) the service is terrible, food worst! Better try other restaurants that are not at San Marcos!

We were in Venice on our honeymoon for 5 days, well, you can't miss a coffee and tea on the San Marco Plazza, in one of the most well known "cafés" in the world. Of course it's expensive, you know it from the start. But still, the atmosphere is great, the service as well of course. If you have a... More

Caffe Florian has been there sine 1795! Inside it is lovely but we went there to sit in St Mark's Square, watch the people and listen to the music. The musicians play a range of music and in the evenings attract a crowd in the square which adds to the atmosphere. Be aware there is a cover charge of 6... More

What delightful place to spend some time watching the worl go by while listening to some pleasant music (even if they do charge an extra 6€ for the pleasure). Food and drinks were excellent and our waiter on the first visit was wonderful with my mother in law who had a tear in her eye due to memories of happy... More

As we happened to wander San Marco, we bumped into this quaint and charming old restaurant that seemed to speak volumes of its rich past. The place is beautiful, the food offered is wonderful. I ate a nice big sundae, while my husband had a pint of beer (olives and chips served for free with drinks) as we thoroughly enjoyed... More

Some may say that Caffe Florian is a bit touristy and expensive. It is. But it is worth the experience! Amidst the craziness of San Marco Square, the droves of tour groups, the clusters of pigeons, this place is a little piece of heaven. Why not sit and relax, enjoy the live piano music and sip some of the best... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
