A lovely lunch in the square

We had coffee, water, and some quiche for lunch sitting outdoors. They had musicians playing, I think it was piano and some strings, which you pay a little extra for but I thought it was nice. Service is not fast but that is fine when you're just enjoying the view. So overall, a little pricey... read more

Although to sit at this cafe adults have to pay 6 euros just for the table! But in my opinion if you go to Venice to experience the true tourist experience then it was worth it. The live music in the cafe together with the ambience of history from St Marks Square was great for us as a family to... More

Caffe Florian is expensive but worth the time and euros! This is a well known people watching spot complete with music (which you are charged a surcharge for). It is the perfect spot on St Marks's Square to sit in the afternoon or evening, have a drink and a snack and listen to the music and people watch. It's worth... More

A Venetian experience not to be missed is a leisurely light lunch with rose wine in the sunshine in San Marco square while listening to the band at Caffe Florian. I can recommend the smoked salmon and spinach quiche and the olives and crisp nibbles. Elegant attentive service , delicious wine and food, entertaining music and the famous view -... More

We stopped by here for a snack and a drink and to do some people watching and listen to the orchestras battling. Not disappointed - great spot on the square, expensive of course but everything in Venice is expensive! Very entertaining!

If you are in Venice then you of course have to visit one of the cafes on the square. Drinks and snacks were VERY expensive here. However, the atmosphere - sitting outside listening to the orchestra as the sun sets - makes the prices worth it.

Always wanted to enjoy the ambience and to experience 'Forian' in San Marco Square. I wasn't disappointed. I made a request to the musicians, which was wonderful. Of course it is necessary to overlook the price, but, for me it will be a 'once in a lifetime experience', so, why not enjoy it.

Visited this great coffee house for a breakfast experience. Had heard about how popular it was and so we tried it for breakfast coffee. Ended up with a wonderful assortment of goodies presented to us. The waiter was wonderful. We asked him if he could take our photo and he also brought us inside to take a second one.

Yes, prices are very high, but you cannot miss the experience. If you like ice cream, take the Gianduiotto. Or take aperitifs, wine or food. Quality is high, service is impeccable and location helps you to digest the bill. Do not go there is you want to analyse value for money, unless you are able to value the intangible. You... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
