Sit back and watch

I agree with most that has been written about this restaurant, but I would still wholeheartedly recommend. We had a couple of Aperol spritz at this cichetti place with a good view of the grand canal. Service was not fast, but we we were not in a hurry. That is key in Italy. Go there after soaking in San Polo and Santa Croce and you will be rewarded...

We had lunch at this popular restaurant near the Rialto Bridge overlooking the Grand Canal. The pasta dishes were well prepared but as the service was so bad we just gave up trying to order anything else. The couple at the next table complained about the quality of their food - they were offered a replacement which they only half... More

Great views. We sat having a drink overlooking the Grand canal. Service was very slow to say how quiet it was. Didn't eat here

Bought the highly recommended Lonely Planet pocket guide to Venice, which dedicates a lyrical paragraph to this restaurant, so we went. Let me save you all the disappointment in three words. It is rubbish. Four words: it is expensive rubbish. The wine is 2x West End London, the "view" is ok, but frankly Venice is generally so pretty that this... More

I give this place a average rating just because of the location. It has an amazing view of the canal and the location is hopping. The drinks were fair at best and very expensive.

This is one of our favourite places for an Aperol Spritz after a long day of walking all over Venice island. Located on the Grand Canal near the fish markets, it is fascinating to watch the passing parade on the water as there is a gondola station right in front of the osteria. We stayed on for dinner this time... More

The young female server was absolutely miserable, sharply snapping "kitchen is closed" when we stopped to look at the menu and shooed us away with a dirty look. The male server with the shaved head and goatee, on the other hand, was friendly and charming. 2€ up charge on drinks on average for sitting. Sad-looking and mostly seafood or fried... More

My husband and I had a lovely, very expensive, romantic meal here in September 2014. It was a beautiful night, and after wandering for hours looking at the sights trying to find just the right location to eat for our first and only night in Venice, discovered Al Pesador. We were delighted that we could walk up get a table... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
