The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties.

" Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris.

The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy.

Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

Delicious

We visited Do Forni twice on our Venice trip. Very delicious food in truly Italian atmosphere. Broad selection of food and wine. Good service. Expensive, but ok for Venice, as compared to price/ quality in other centrally located restaurants/trattorias.

The food was superb. Pasta was fresh and beautifully prepared. Fish and meat presented in authentic Italian style. Service was superb. It was so good we went for a second night and were given a table in the front part of the restaurant - which was decorated as if you were on the Orient Express. Beautiful. The aubergines were a... People who want to eat here, shouldn't even think of it. 120 euros for two lousy plates of pasta! It is ridiculous. Sure the place looks fancy on the inside, but the service is pathetic with the waiters literally shouting at you. Often they would pass rude comments on customers in Italian to other waiters. And the pricing is so... More

We called in early and were surrounded by a change of shift. The staff were great, we were looked after, offered a taste of their local delicacy, a sweet pastry the chefs were all snacking on. We both had fish, the presentation, sauce and taste were all fabulous. I had John Dorey, followed by crepes, both very tasty. Lovely setting,... More

Excellent seafood and fish. You should try antipasti di pesce and seafood risottos Ask the waiter what he recommends from the daily menu. It is not cheap but well worth it You should count 50 euros minimum for a main course and wine

Visited with family and most of us had two courses and hardly any alcohol. The food was ok but not great, but ended up costing €250 for the four of us - they also got one of our orders wrong. We had to remind them numerous times to actually get our food, and even getting the bill took numerous requests!... More

This restaurant has absolutely nothing going for it. Food...mediocre to bad. Service...rude. Atmosphere...a terrible mix of cold and pretentious. Price...the final insult. Overpriced for quality you wouldn't accept from fast food..all this with a 5 euro cover charge plus 12% service fee. Please stay away from this restaurant...it is an insult such a place exists in a marvelous city like... More

Tried the Sadre saur and the grilled sole. Both were excellent and very tasty. Definitely one of the best places to eat near Piazza San Marco.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
