The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties. " Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris. The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy. Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

Went here with friends who live in Venice and they are regulars. Was treated like family; the service was exceptional. They never brought us a menu - just asked us what we would like and they made it for us, very old school in style and décor. Lots of extra treats were provided. The octopus was amazing, as was the... We were feeling jet lagged and wanted an early dinner. Walked in at 5:45 and had the restating to ourselves. Service was a 5. Doge's Sampler (spider crap, shrimp, and langoustines) was fantastic. Very fresh. The onion soup at gratin was also a 5. Different than French version with a blonde stock and not brown. But equally delicious and cheesy.... More

It is very pricey but our meal was excellent. The service was very good also. We had raviolis, lasagna and vegetable pie was amazing don't let the name fool you! It was tagatelli with fresh vegetables in a delicious light cream sauce. Yum! The atmosphere is very old and not very pretty. Our table was in a back small room... More

The Restaurant doesn't look like too much from the outside, but once you get in it is not difficult to see that it is aimed at exclusivity in an old venetian style. The service was very friendly and competent, the food came quick and tasted absolutely fabulous. The only thing negative I could say about the restaurant is that the... More

Recommended by 5 star hotel. Service poor. As if we were an inconvenience. Service offensive. Food average or below and over priced. 200 euros. There must be better places to enjoy good Italian/Venetian food and likely at half the price. Sadly disappointed. Ciao.

We arrived about an hour before our reservation and were welcomed into the bar and served Bellini and antipasto. Ordered a bottle of wine and visited with a couple from Sweden. Before being seated we were shown the wine storage upstairs. Spent the following three and one half hours being catered to and enjoying a fantastic meal. It was our... More

We tried this restaurant based on a recommendation. While the service was first rate unfortunately the same can't be said for the food. The seafood we had was very plain but the price was extremely high. We expected a knock out dish for what we paid.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
