The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties. " Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris. The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy. Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

We are having a four night break in Venice with two friends who had visited this restaurant several years ago and wanted to visit it again. Big mistake! The worst and most expensive meal so far. The food was very average. The dish was almost thrown in front of you by the very indifferent/ arrogant staff. We had three courses... More

If you do not have a lot of $$$ don't come here. I got a great lobster that costed 150$ by itself. The waiter was very nice to help us cut the shells off, get the meat out, etc

I love their Fegato alla Veneziana. I had it many years ago and it is burned into my memory. It is absolutely the BEST liver & onions I've ever had in my life, bar none. On our most recent visit to Venice I "negotiated" with my wife for a return visit to relive the experience. She is not a big... More

This is a fine dining place with all it entails - crusty white tablecloth and real silver, team of excellent waiters working for each table, it's expensive, and the ingredients and dishes are of superb quality. At the same time this restaurant is laid back and has a rustic vibe to it. You can see pictures of the royal visitors... More

Venice is filled with wonderful restaurants. This is not one of them. It is way over-priced and the quality of the food is barely average. The service was fair, at best. Do not waste your time and money at this place. We found Trip Advisor reviews to be pretty accurate. If you look, you will see that this is not... More

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor my wife still wanted to check this place out. Well the reviews were 100% right, this place is a rip-off, they take advantage of tourists, locals even mentioned how terrible the food is, often frozen. I'm very disappointed in the J.W. Marriott for recommending this place. Does the JW get a commission for ripping... More

Normally, I don't like to be extremely critical, but this restaurant is a class A scam. I was recommended this place by the concierge at my hotel and now I feel even he was part of this scam. I studied the prices on the menu and thought it is expensive, but just about affordable, so decided to go ahead and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
