Amazing food, Amazing wine what more do you want?

After reading the reviews we knew we had to make an appearance for dinner. We like to steer away from the tacky tourist traps so this was just what we were after. The waiters were welcoming and very patient with my very indecisive boyfriend. The food was amazing and tasted so good and their own... read more

Had to wait over an hour for a table and no opportunity for drinks while waiting. Generally contemptuous service. Food average when it eventually arrived.

We came to this restaurant on recommendation from Truly Venice and were very sorry we bothered. It was busy but this is no excuse for bad service. The menu is very quirky and handwritten. They made no attempt to cope with my wife's wheat intolerance and she was given fried (overcooked) fish, sloppy polenta and artichokes. The pasta was good... More

Found this place by accident in the daytime when wandering around the streets of Venice. First look at the menu sold us instantly - so many places in Venice seem to have very similar menus (pizza, pasta, fish) and this place sounded proper. Plus a peek inside suggested a place with cosy character. Doesn't open until 7pm - we reserved... More

Well, the title says it all. Came here on the recommendation of an italian business relative and was not dissapointed! The food was excellent, the Gin-Tonic was great and the specially recommended wine was so good I brought two bottles home. Try the beef cheek!

We went because it was recommended and the restaurant was full when we arrived, so we had very high expectations. But it was very disappointing. The waiter refused to give us a wine list, which seems odd for a place that is recommended for its choice of wines. After some persistence the waiter recommended a Merlot from Friuli, which was... Fantastic little place somewhat off the tourist-beaten track with a fabulous array of wines that can be ordered by the glass or bottle with fair prices! This was our first visit to Venezia and we were intrigues based on other Trip Advisor reviews of this place. Somewhat quirky and with few tables the place seemed popular with a mixed clientele.... We have been coming to Venice for several years in March; this is our seventh visit here and we always MUST visit this place, for drinks and food. They have a fine selection of wine with amazing recommendations. In the past couple of years, they have also been offering numerous choices in gin, picking up on the latest trends in... More

This small gem is off the beaten path. We arrived late on a very cold night. I stepped inside to see if they had room to accommodate our party. It was warm, crowded and noisy, my glasses fogged over completely and a completely drunk patron, from a table of heavy drinking locals, started loudly, to make what I deduced to... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
