Worth finding.

this is NOT the correct name, as someone else noted! Should be Enoteca Mascareta! Went twice as loved the atmosphere, the decoration of the place and the general ambiance. Food was good, great steak, good pork and though we didn't drink a highly priced wine, it was lovely. Staff friendly.

Although we had a reservation and the door was open when we arrived around 7 pm, they sent us away because they were not ready. In such cases one would expect a short explaination and a drink for the time you have to wait. So in this case..we went somewhere else. Bad service!

We came here May last year and enjoyed every meal we had so when we stayed in Venice for one night during our honeymoon in October 2015 we came back! The restautant was fully booked for the evening but the owner said he could arrange a table for us within 15-20 minutes! He even offered us a glass of wine... More

The first night we arrived in Venice, it was already around 10pm but we definitely wanted to get a bite to eat and have some wine. Staying at an air b&b right nearby, our host recommended Enoiteca Mascareta (or Osteria-Enoteca) because it's known to stay open late. We ordered a fantastic, delicious selection of cheeses and meats, and an assorted... More

This glorious find was recommended by our B&B host. Not too far of a walk away, we wandered over there after dinner. We were pleased to find that not only did they have wine, but dessert as well. Our bow tie wearing waiter gave us great recommendations on wine, and we ordered the tiramasu. Hands down, the best tiramasu we've... More

We were recommended to this place by the people we hired our apartment from, otherwise I don't think anyone would find it! Service was smashing, really nice and helpful - we asked for wine recommendations and they went through our likes and dislilkes with us and we drink a Soave the likes of which you would rarely get in England!... Excellent food. Service was fine, albeit a little ironic / surly. I felt that we had to convince the waiter we were more worthy than the 20 euro standard wine list. In the end we were 'upgraded' to a magnificent Barolo, available by the glass. In fact everything was available by the glass. Many people were knocked back for failing to... More

A popular spot among locals, the "Enoteca Mascareta" is honestly one of the best wine bars I've ever experienced in my life. The settling is classic bistro with portraits of boss Mauro everywhere. Service is ironically serious and the food is just perfect. Every product, from the anchovies to the zucchini to the burrata seem to have been grown in... More

We ordered Prosecco, and got a very poor bottle. We asked for something better. The second bottle was even worse. It was as if the waiter wanted to shower us with disdain. In fact, the worst wine we have had in years. One of our dishes was extremely good. The others ok. But this is a place with an owner... More

We went here on the last night of our 5 nights in Venice & loved it. As suggested we let the waiter choose the wine, & at his suggestion I had carpaccio followed by lamb shank. I took ages in eating the carpaccio as it was so succulent I wanted to savour every mouthful, and the lamb shank literally fell... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
