Busy but delicious

We usually share a meal as neither of us is a big eater, however we decided to each have our own of the lunch specials. After saying I was coeliac I was told what was ok for me to eat and we ordered 2 of those dishes so I could taste the other one. The veal with lemon sauce was... read more

We stumbled across this restaurant at lunch yesterday and we are so glad we did! They have eleven prix fixe menus for 12 euros! We selected two and they were both excellent. It is popular with locals which is our sign of excellence. Great service.

This restaurant was recommended by my friend's aunt.... Well recommended I must say. We were able to find it with the use of google maps combined with the paper map as it is a hidden gem. There was a wait list but she was able to get us in to our happiness. I ordered the raw seafood appetizer which was... More

We discovered Osteria Mocenigo as we were wandering around the Santa Croce district one afternoon. Tired of the tourist trap (they say that Venetians never eat in restaurants between the Ponte di Rialto and Piazza San Marco, and there is a reason why!) we were looking for something a bit more authentic, where the locals dined. Stepping off the Vaporetto... More

We found this and are happy for it. Although we do not speak Italian, we have zero problem communicating. We ate at 900, which seems late to Americans, but is normal for the locals. The ambiance is exactly what we want a NON-tourist, authentic local food. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is amazing, helpful We had... More

We stayed close by and the hotel recommended this restaurant. It's a family run business and the food was absolutely fantastic. We ordered a seafood platter appetizer and I had the pasta with cuttlefish in black squid ink sauce. It could have been arguably one go the best pasta dishes I have ever had. The cuttlefish was super tender and... More

Very friendly, helpful service, great food, authentic surroundings. We felt that the staff really cared about the food they served and how they served it. A little bit off the beaten track but very close to the San Stae vaporetto station so easy to find from there. We only went there on our last night in Venice but wished we... More

We were strolling around the area and found this very local place. Everyone was very friendly, the food was good. Clients there were local workers, neighbors... Well worth it if you wanna escape the crowds and get a more authentic experience of Venice.

We came for dinner by recommended by locals. As it is outside the very tourist area, the atmosphere was relaxed, food was ok with reasonable price. If you come for lunch, there are good set menus here.

Family owned. Pride in everything they make. We had a large party that visited this restaurant twice, once for lunch and also for dinner. This restaurant did not disappoint. Very reasonable and frequented by locals. That says a great deal.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
