Excellent value - good food

This was recommended by the place we stayed and we were not disappointed. Good food, good service for about EUR35 per head including drinks. Need to book

Venice is a magical city, but we found the food overall to be not up to the standards of other Italian locales. We couldn't even find a decent loaf of Italian bread! One evening we wandered past an unassuming little restaurant off the beaten path. It was packed with locals, so we were determined to return the next night for... More

Seven years ago we stayed in the Santa Croce area of Venice and happened to wonder over that way on our recent trip. It was early morning when we walked by this restaurant and checked out the menu. Ok, back to the hotel for reservations. With reservations in hand, we took the boat back to the restaurant. First, I have... More

This place is great. Very friendly multilingual host at the door who was skilled in knowing when to come to the table. Food was great and the wait was minimal. I had the Tuna steak both nights as it is the best tuna I have had on our trip so far. Not over cooked and served with beautiful cherry tomatoes.... More

We were looking to eat at La Zucca, but they were full. We asked the waitress for her recommendation for another place to eat. She recommended Osteria Mocenigo. Great recommendation! The restaurant was comfortable and the waiter, Lucca, was friendly and helpful. We had the prosecca along with the clams and mussels (excellent), lasagna (good) and the John

I had never tried the black squid ink spaghetti before, thinking it would have a very strong flavor, but the Cuttlefish was tender and the sauce had a mild flavor. Of course, it went very well with the House Red. This little Osteria is very popular with the locals, so make a reservation if you can. We didn't, and got... More

My husband & I stumbled across this little place today & were intrigued by the €12 lunch specials they offered. There were many choices which included a meal, salad or chips, wine beer or water & a coffee. I had the calamari fritti which was served with grilled polenta & a salad it was delicious. My husband had the house... More

This is not fanciful but it delivers creditable meal at fair prices. I was quite amazed that there were 3 servers yet they kept everything under control. We had a antipasto of occupus capaacio and fried calamari. Their spagetti cooked alio olio style with seafood or tomatoes were good change from the saucy hand made pici in Tuscany. A bottle... More

Strange meal here, seemed promising with the starters then our mains were quite terrible, my main was swimming in oil with random chopped iceberg lettuce on the side and my girlfriends seafood was over cooked and inedible. We left halfway the meal, service was okay, lacking in atmosphere.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
