Bistrot de Venise first opened in 1993 and has since become a hangout and meeting place where the figurative arts, poetry and culture combine, simply, with Food and Wine....1999 saw the start of our research into Rare Wines and Historical Venetian Cuisine, strengthening our concept of applying culture to local and regional Gastronomy and Wine. ...our hard work still continues today... Gastronomy & Wine…extensive research on the history of venetian Cuisine and Wines, from its noble origins to the present time. The Historic & Renaissance Venetian Cuisine revised and suggested by our Chef Mario Missese and his young team. Our House, unique in town, offer a gastronomic trip back to the past glories of Venice following its history & tradition. ”Award winning” wine list, for the quality and variety of the selected rare wines from the Veneto Region and the North-East of Italy. When I told my law partner of my trip to Italy in mid-March 2009, he immediately pulled up Bistrot de Venise on the internet and smiled fondly. Our reservations were made online, and our dinner selections were made as we studied the menu during the train ride from Florence. The greeting from the staff was the start of a fabulous... More

I ate here for the first and last nights of a 7 day holiday in Venice and on both occasions the food was excellent with a good choice of traditional dishes. I was given helpful advice about food and wine choices and enjoyed the 'extra' appetizers which were interestingly different and delicious. The ambience, even on a Monday night was... More

If you like expensive restaurants with very careful and friendly waiters and long histories about the food (they can cook it according to middle age recipes - which is interesting but not necessarily good:), this is the place for you. It may well serve its purpose to impress your girlfriend, if you have no problems in shelling out some 100-200... More

My husband and I went there for dinner as all the reviews were fantastic. The decoration is very plain and doesnt feel Venetian at all if that is what you are looking for. The waiting staff were nice however the main waiter serving our table was very funny and attentive when we first walked in. He went through the menu... More

Second time visit to this restaurant. Menu is a cultural and historical treat. Unexpectedly delicious meals that allow you to sample in the present day, dishes of the Venetian past. friendly and attentive management and staff. Good value set-menus offer a value alternative to the a la carte. Highly recommended.

The waiters were welcoming, friendly and attentive giving full attention to detail and the food was amazing. There are hundreds of restaurants in Venice and we were delighted to find Bistrot de Venise for our Valentine's meal. Would definately recomment this restaurant for a special occasion!

We had dinner at Bistrot de Venise on a Saturday night in Feb 09, our first night in Venice. We had booked a different restaurant but got hampered by high water, which in hindsight was very lucky as our night turned out so well. The host treated us so well from the time we arrived, suggesting an aperitif, recommended starters,... More

Quality restaurants are few and far between in Venice but this one stands out a mile above the rest and we had the loveliest dinner at the Bistrot de Venise. It's worth spending a bit more money for the experience! Thanks.

My first experience of the Bistrot de Venise was 3 years ago for my friends 40th birthday meal. We had gone to Venice with her family and her brother had had this restaurant recommended to him. I don't remember what I ate that first visit but I remember that the overall experience was very special and the food was delicious.... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
