Bistrot de Venise first opened in 1993 and has since become a hangout and meeting place where the figurative arts, poetry and culture combine, simply, with Food and Wine....1999 saw the start of our research into Rare Wines and Historical Venetian Cuisine, strengthening our concept of applying culture to local and regional Gastronomy and Wine. ...our hard work still continues today... Gastronomy & Wine…extensive research on the history of venetian Cuisine and Wines, from its noble origins to the present time. The Historic & Renaissance Venetian Cuisine revised and suggested by our Chef Mario Missese and his young team. Our House, unique in town, offer a gastronomic trip back to the past glories of Venice following its history & tradition. ”Award winning” wine list, for the quality and variety of the selected rare wines from the Veneto Region and the North-East of Italy. Professional wine tasting (free) all year round. "..exciting Wine List" .. (see Michelin Guide 2012) specialized in the research of many Rare Wines, a truly unique selection purchased directly from small producers with the help of Istituto Sperimentale di Viticoltura di Conegliano. We were directed to this restaurant by out hotel concierge after our top 4 choices were fully committed ( book early ) we were pleasantly surprised by the food wine and service. It's a fairly casual restaurant but the weather was delightful in Venice at night so we sat outside. We had an excellent beef carpaccio starter a beautiful pasta... More

We chose this place based on the reviews we'd read, and we weren't disappointed in the slightest. The gourmet-quality food was terrific from start to finish and we didn't find it quite as intimidating in terms of either atmosphere or price as we might have feared. The server did upsell us on a "better" bottle of wine than we had... More

I guess what you might expect from a very expensive restaurant in a very expensive city. We ordered the 69 euro tasting menu and were delighted by the the entrees and anti pasti. The main of duck was however incredibly chewy and had an odd, grainy texture that wasn't something i'd like to experience again. It is however undeniably great... More

At long last we found this truly excellent restaurant in the labyrinthine of cynical eateries that is Venice. Walter, the Maitre'd ensured the wine matched the quality of this fabulous menu. The Bistrot is in a quiet, non-descript little street, no grand view or canal, but so what, the food is superb. This is Venice, so you pay a hefty... More

Made reservations by email and was happily surprised to see that our table for 6 was reserved on the charming and pleasant sidewalk. Sitting outside and enjoying the excellent seafood, wine and olive oil (!) was a real experience. Service was fine and made the whole evening a real experience.

It's michelin recommended restaurant, service and food quality are guaranteed. We have lunch here and been well served. There some items dedicated to smoked red tuna and they tasted good.

Being French, food and wines are essential for a good moment ... I was never disappointed here. The wine list is impressive and you can discover some very interesting gems (I even discovered a very good Champagne I did not know, an I am keeping the reference for my next stay in Champagne ;-)) and the food (specially the tagliatelle... Must reserve in advance, as it is always full. The best overall culinary experience in this city!!!! A must if you want to experience the amazing food taste, contrast in flavors and presentation, the service,, out of Italy!! We were guided from the sitting to the drinks, wines to pair our dinner, to the primi and secondi plates.. Awesome wine... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
