Historic restaurant, lovely food

We had a table outside with gentle classical music playing. Extensive menu including a range of dishes from history. This is also an Enoteque so very good range of wine and expert advice. Lovely way to spend an evening

We had a nice late afternoon lunch at Bistrot de Venice. Lovely seafood dishes, yet not spectacular. Excellent local white wine - Collio. The surprise came at the beginning when we were served sashimi on rissoto - not quite the excellence of Japanese sashimi :))

My wife and I ate here last night for a special anniversary meal. I wanted something that was exquisitely prepared and presented, quiet, and an excellent well knowledgeable staff and got it all. This is a meal that you sit and enjoy every bite, tasting each subtle ingredient. You're not getting huge portions, but you're getting an extremely high end... More

Very traditional setup with lots of small dining rooms and a very attentive waiter service. Lots of really good dished on the menu including some really historic recipes brought up to date using modern ingredients. 4 and 6 course taster menus available together with an impressive a la carte menu and an extensive wine list. Coped with my wife's wheat... More

When you want to eat properly, you have to go to this place. The food is perfectly prepared. Wonderful recipes and attended carefully. What to think about artichoke soup. The artichoke grow on island nearby. And the ravioli was superb, a lot of different tastes on your plate. There is a little warning, i f you want a huge meal... More

Great dinner. Excellent food. Not cheap, but worth it. Good wine. Need reservations. A high level service. We had two dinners there. We came back for the second dinner because really loved the first one.

The waiting staff went out of their way to be helpful with one of our party who has a severe nut allergy. They double checked with the kitchen that particular dishes were safe, and when they could not guarantee the desserts which were shown on the menu, they produced a different dish which they were certain was safe and nut... We had a great meal in this restaurant despite arriving very ate for the lunch service. The highlight of the meal was scampi enrobed in an almond batter and served with a lemony mascarpone sauce - sublime! The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
