Best meal in Venice

Fantastic restaurant and best meal we had in Venice. Inventive dishes from a chef who circulates in the dining room to ensure everything is just right.

We visited this Osteria to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, having made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance. It is situated in a quiet and very peaceful Campo, which is very nice when dining outside as we did. As a part of four we decided to have one of the tasting menus, selecting the traditional Venetian style. We... More

We looked this up as a Michelan Star restaurant and we were expecting much more. The food was very average. So many places in Venice are of a much higher quality. The staff were down right rude to the extent that it made both my guests band myself feel uncomfortable. They rushed us through three courses. Never again.

When I travel I like to try as many restaurants as I can as I am a food lover! I have been addressed to Osteria di Santa Marina by the Hotel concierge who told me good things about this restaurant. Well, I think this is an overrated restaurant with average food. It was four of us and we waited at... More

I managed to book this place by mistake, thinking it's another restaurant I'd been to in Venice years ago and when I got here last night I was a bit disappointed to start with but boy was I surprised! I live in London and have very high expectations of food quality so it doesn't come lightly when I say this... More

So I booked this as a special anniversary dinner for my girlfriend and I whilst we were staying in Venice. With a myriad of places to eat I wanted to make sure we were going to have a great meal and so upon reading reviews on trip advisor I decided to book a few weeks in advance (definitely advisable) We... I came to L’Osteria di Santa Marina during a weekend visit to Venice with my girlfriend last weekend. We’d just been on a Gondola so were having a romantic evening so far. We got to the restaurant after 10pm, when a lot of restaurants had already closed their kitchen for the night. We were sat outside, which was a very... More

the beginning selection of fish was great, had a 70E tasting menu which looked ambitious so ordered their take on "fish & chips" it was bland and a poor choice??why would I think English fast food was a good idea??!! better alternative was the ravioli. the fanciful desert made up for the fish and chips and was a nice combination.

After being over-charged by Nuova Grotta, our host recommended this restaurant. We ordered turbot fish again, and it is delicious and cost half of the price. Everything tasted great and the waiters are very professional. Thanks. Will come back again next time. We come to Venice every two years!

Wallpaper and other guides rate this highly. Our experience was average to good. Wine list was empty. If you didn't want Soave or Chardonnay, the bianco list was sold out and what was left, average. The food however was good. Eggplant starter very good. Bean soup excellent. Sea bream fresh. Service not as attentive as all the guide books suggest.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
