Deliciously authentic with a difference...

Combines authentic Venetian in a contemporary style. Well-priced. Great wine advice on offer. You need to book, as is popular with locals.

Special and delicious food. Something different but in a traditional setting. Our eight year old son was warmly welcomed even though this is much more for sophistticated tastes but he loved the food as much as we did.

We were lucky to get a last minute reservation at this restaurant on a Wednesday evening (so it's always worth trying!). When we first arrived it was very hushed and quite a strange atmosphere, but once we were seated the ambience livened up a bit (it helped once music started playing over the sound system). All the wait staff who... More

We chose this restaurant because it was open on a Monday evening, and the positive reviews. It was a very good meal, and the menu offered a good choice. The staff were attentive and efficient, the food was well cooked and presented, and the wine list extensive and not overpriced. It was packed with customers, but tables were reasonably spaced... Chose this place as it was right across from our hotel and had good rating on tripadvisor. Door had many stickers showing who recommended by etc. so we had high hopes. Food was pricey but while not awful was not worth the price paid. One of the waiters was very attentive and helpful with wine choice etc.and the other was... More

very friendly and attentive staff. They have tasting menu as well as a la carte options. Frito mista was just perfect. Besides an interesting wine list with organic unfiltered whites nicely supplements the food

We enjoyed an amazing meal at the Santa Marina. A busy restaurant with a superb menu, the food was exceptional, and the staff were all warm, attentive, and personal. A highlight of our visit to Venice. Highly recommended.

This was the restaurant we went to on our first evening based on a number of recommendations from Italian friends and guide books. We were very positively surprised! The service was great and the food and wine selection was outstanding. We went for the 7 course "creative menu" (the other one is a traditional Venetian one) and couldn't have had... More

This is a place to enjoy more edgy food. I ate edgy and thought it was superb, but my husband, who tends to enjoy more basic food, didn't love it. I worried about the kids, but they managed to order a simpler version of one of the pastas and were fine. One kid surprised me by ordering a foodie Italian... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
