Lovely lunch

quiet, sophisticated, non touristy restaurant. Thoughtful service and delicious food. A place to enjoy your companion over leisurely and beautifully prepared meal. The fish and chips was a delightful creative venture. Between course sorbet and other gratis chefs offerings were delectable.

The food at this Osteria and the service were excellent. The atmosphere was pleasant but one got the feeling that it must have been well reviewed by the New York Times as all the patrons were middle aged upper class Americans on their annual pilgrimage to Europe.

Was recommended by a friend who goes to Venice quite often. We went during the day to see if they had a table and were lucky to get the last table of the evening. The food was very good and well up to the standard we hoped for and the service was professional and efficent despite being so busy, friendly... More

I had found this restaurant via the Michelin guide and was expecting great things. Reservations a must. The place is very small and limited menu. It was freezing, air con far too high and staff not very friendly. Food was good but not really much in the way of traditional Italian dishes.

We had had some problems with our Hotel satisfactorily booking restaurants for dinners on our trip to Venice to celebrate a 'special' wedding anniversary. Well we got this one right and what a experience. Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff giving great help on wine and food suggestions and a quality/ taste/presentation of food which which was truly excellent. Good value for... More

We were in Venice for three nights only and had reserved before we travelled well-recommended restaurants for dinner every evening. This was my favourite. Service was warm and friendly, we had the tasting menu which was faultless and contained many delightful and amazing combinations and flavours. I'm still thinking about the dessert which involved crispy meringue and licorice powder, but... More

You know you're in the right place when no one is speaking English (except us). We had lunch here on St Mark's Day. Full of large local families celebrating a major holiday. Excellent food, decor and service. Well worth a visit.

A second visit to this wonderful restaurant thsa we discovered last year. There is an enticing a la carte menu but also two tasting menus and we elected on both occasions to have this. As well as what was listed on the menu there was an amuse bouche and also a sorbet before the dessert, so we certainly did not... More

We came here for the last night of a special visit to Venice. We had booked ahead having read about the restaurant and we were not disappointed. We both wanted to try the tasting menus but different ones... This was not a problem to the charming, professional but personable staff. My husband chose the traditional menu starring essentially fish; sardine... More

Combines authentic Venetian in a contemporary style. Well-priced. Great wine advice on offer. You need to book, as is popular with locals.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
