beautifully situated on square, interesting menu

the beginning selection of fish was great, had a 70E tasting menu which looked ambitious so ordered their take on "fish & chips" it was bland and a poor choice??why would I think English fast food was a good idea??!! better alternative was the ravioli. the fanciful desert made up for the fish and... read more

After being over-charged by Nuova Grotta, our host recommended this restaurant. We ordered turbot fish again, and it is delicious and cost half of the price. Everything tasted great and the waiters are very professional. Thanks. Will come back again next time. We come to Venice every two years!

Wallpaper and other guides rate this highly. Our experience was average to good. Wine list was empty. If you didn't want Soave or Chardonnay, the bianco list was sold out and what was left, average. The food however was good. Eggplant starter very good. Bean soup excellent. Sea bream fresh. Service not as attentive as all the guide books suggest.... More

Exceptional food and exceptional service, just make sure you book well in advance. On the Monday night that we went the restaurant turned away about a dozen couples that didn't have a booking. This is the pick of the spots that we saw for a special dinner in Venice. Everything we tried on the menu was exceptional and we a... More

This is an excellent choice for seafood in the Castello area. There are tables on the piazza and a comfortable restaurant inside. Efficient service and excellent food, particularly the seafood. A bit touristy, but what restaurant in Venice is not. Worth a try if you are near the area.

We had the a Spring tasting menu and it was wonderful! Worth coming if only for the fish and chips "Il nostro" but all of the other courses impressed as well. The staff were attentive and efficient and service was excellent.

We have been there with our friends for taking dinner and we have a terrible experience ! We never eat so bad food ! The reviews on Tripadvisor don't reflect the quality of the food ! Just don't go there ! Don't worth it !

Do it. More expensive than many, but value is great. Best tiramisu I had in Venice. Cosy inside, and also outside on the piazza. Hidden gem away from the most touristy places.

Recommended by our hotel this restaurant was well worth the visit - up-market, great seafood degustation menu (surprisingly contemporary, considering the surrounds), good wine suggestions. We'd come to Venice to celebrate my partner's 50th birthday, and were very happy that we chose this restaurant for dinner. Be sure to reserve a table in advance!

I cannot choose between my favourite three restaurants in Venice - the other options being Da Fiore and the Grand Canal Restaurant at the Hotel Monaco - but you will not leave L'Osteria Santa Marina disappointed. The menu is excellent and does not try too hard to dazzle with "show off" dishes but provides refreshing alternative takes on established favourites.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
