This place was recommended by our concierge who made us reservations for dinner. Wow, was it fun! Tiny, jam packed, people spilled out the door waiting with wine in hand, inside seated shoulder to shoulder. Lots of locals, but also lots of very happy tourists. Noisy, not for romance, but absolutely enjoyable. We got hopelessly lost getting there (it's Venice)... More

I first saw this restaurant on a cookery show and wanted to go there when next in Venice. We were not disappointed, the food is so fresh, simply cooked and totally wonderful. The ambience and feel of this small ostteria was welcoming and warm. They have only 22 seats with two sittings for the evening 7pm and 9.30pm. Not the... More

The moment you book your flight to Venice - make a reservation! Or even before that! It is extremely hard to make a reservation at this tiny restaurant, especially in winter, when there is no outdoor seating - I counted only 9 tables for 2. On Saturday - almost impossible. And now, to the point. I eat at restaurants not... More

We went here the first night of out two day trip. When we came in we found a small restaurant with around 12 tables. One table seemed free but was booked by a hotel. The people who booked were 15 minutes late so the friendly host told us that he would give us the table if they were half an... More

Lovely restaurant that I found out about from reading Russell Norman's Polpo cookbook (a great guide to places to eat in Venice by the way!). Really authentic & excellent food, lovely service, small & intimate. Make sure you book a table in advance as I think walk-in's would be difficult. Also note, the food is that fresh that the restaurant... More

The restaurant was open the first day after seasonal closing and we booked from our hotel for the same evening. We shared one mixed steamed seafood as a first dish (25 €), then had a turbot filet and grilled squids (25 € each) and a tiramisu for desert (9 €). For seafood this a fair price and not too expensive.... More

Tucked out of the way - needed Google Maps to track it down. Booked in advance - need to it's tiny. Great hustle and bustle - typically Italian - although most of the diners were British. Those UK broadsheet recommendations really do work! Excellent seafood. Fresh. Cooked to perfection. Nice breads to accompany. Good wine choice. All in all a... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
