Nice and cozy place in Venice.

I took my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday as it was recommended as the #1 restaurant in tripadvisor. The food was very good in a cozy ambient but I found it very expensive for what it was. I took my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday as it was recommended as the #1 restaurant in tripadvisor. The food was very good in a cozy ambient but I found it very expensive for what it was. Staff were very friendly and excellent recommendation for wine. All the food was really fresh I have to say!

There are just 11 tiny tables in this small, classically decorated restaurant halfway between San Marco and Rialto, run since the mid 1990s with flair and professionalism by chef Bruno and co-owner and front of house manager, Luca. Of course, this means you need to book - and book well in advance, certainly for dinner. We are in Venice for... More

It was an excellent meal. All seafood especially purchased that day and prepared. Only two seatings because there are only 11 (2-top) tables in the restaurant. Service was wonderful and the seafood prepared with perfection. Wine selection was also very good.

After much research and reading before traveling to Venice, I found consistent positive recommendations on Alle Testiere. The restaurant is so well recognized but small in size so scoring a table is a challenge, but oh so worth the effort. From the first moment our 3 generational family were seated, each of us felt respected and our needs attended to.... More

The food at Alle Testiere was excellent - the recommended razor clams were yummy. You wouldn't expect less given the reviews and certainly the prices which could set you back 100 euros per person with wine. The interior is modest and the staff friendly. However, I would say the service needs some work. Firstly they brought water to the table... More

Oh my gosh where to even begin! I had read rave reviews online and asked my hotel a month prior to our trip to Venice to secure us a reservation. With about ten tables we were left with a 9:30pm reservation and took it immediately as I know this restaurant fills up very quickly! It is very small and understated... More

We would give this place three and a half. Its a good restaurant but not a place you would need to try hard to get into. If you think its going to be special its not. We had the Spaghetti Vongole and the squid ink gnocchi for entree and we shared the grilled seafood for main. We ordered a separate... More

With little more than 20 covers, the totally unpretentious - both outside & in - Alle Testiere certainly is a small restaurant. And despite its equally small kitchen, chef and his little team produce some of the best and freshest market (sea) food that you could ever wish for. To witness the front-of-house guys (two of them) weaving between the... More

This restaurant was our favorite in Venice. We liked everything about it, from the fabulous food to the lively convivial atmosphere.

Make reservations well in advance! it's tiny, they have two seatings, and it's (or at least was?) Zagat's highest rated restaurant in Venice: absolutely deserved. Fantastic fish and seafood. Squid in ink was especially memorable, but nothing was in the least disappointing. This is a restaurant I would go back to every time. It's not fancy, just outstanding. And for... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
