Not as bad as people are saying but Hemingway could have gone somewhere better.

Popped in when I was in Venice last December, like most, because of the hype surrounding the bar. Seated by the bar instantly and served Bellini's swiftly by a pleasant bar employee in a smart traditional white suit (something that may have been worn when it first opened). Not a bad place, quite... read more

Harry’s Bar is an experience of its own. Do not go there if you are a budget-conscious traveler. Cocktails are reasonable, but meals and wines are at quite upscale prices. Yet the quality is very good and the service is attentive and professional. The delicacies are risottos and curries and, of course, the beef carpaccio invented there. There are many... More

I felt I had to see what it was all about especially if Hemingway hung out there. Had a Bellini which was good but $$. A small bar not that spectacular but I was there- when in Rome ......

We visited Harry's bar at the weekend and thought both the service and the food was very average and even had to return one of the main meals. The wine and Bellini glasses were also very small and required continued filling which became very annoying as not always was a waiter available. Overall very expensive and not the experience that... You enter a dark hole, the staff usually greet you in a unique mixture if friendly contempt. The chairs are uncomfortable , try for a banquette, unless you are placed in the middl of the room. The service is super speedy -!!!!

15 of us ate there on Saturday night! What a total disappointment. The food was awful, presentation - well in fact I don't think they knew the meaning of the word presentation. Prices - OMG horrendous prices! put it this way we went on the Orient Express the following day and the prices were cheaper on there!! Bellinis!! Worse Bellinis... More

I always wanted to visit Harry's Bar, the well known bar and restaurant in Venice, Italy. We walked in at 715pm without a reservation, where the maitre d looked us up and down to decide if we were dressed appropriately. Apparently we were, as we were given a table and advised we needed to be out by 8pm as they... More

This place is tiny inside and the tables are very close together. We only went for the famous cocktail. The waiter turned my parter away at 12 for wearing 3/4 trousers. Bearing in mind it's 30c outside. We went next door to the Hotel Monaco and grand canal bar on the front overlooking the bay which was stunning. The piña... More

Excellent food, good drinks, rediculous prices. But thi was Hemmingways hangout and that is what you are paying for. No shorts allowed in the bar. You can eat upstairs but not at the bar.

You probably cannot escape Venice without coming to Harry's Bar, but may be you should. It is the house of the Bellini, so a quick stop at the bar may be sufficient, though the bar no longer has the classic atmosphere it once had. The service at the restaurant was very friendly and the veal venizia quite good. Overcall however,... More
