Beutiful garden, great food

Our group of 10 had a dinner in Corte Sconta. The food was great, many of us had the suggested fish appertizer selection. We sat on the garden - some mosquitos later but they did not bother us much. We recommend this restaurant.

Although food was good, when we got our bill we asked if service was included. The waiter told no service was no included. He als told a party next to us that service was not included. My husband told me all restaurants in Italy included service, and I argued that the waiter in this class of restaurant would not lie... More

This busy restaraunt is tucked up a side street and you would never stumble across it by accident. The waiters seem to speak every language, the food is superb, the atmosphere convivial and it was our favourite place to eat. Go for the antipasta tasting mene- 'starters that keep on coming and included spider crab pate, swordfish, tuna and mantis... More

You know that bad taste you can't seem to shift after eating particularly bad food? You know the bad taste left in your mouth when you know you've been properly ripped off? Well, this place offers both at the same time. Take a look at the photos - the only thing you'll recognise if you are crazy enough to go,... More

This restaurant has been great since my first visit 30 years ago. Local seafood is the best direction, but the owner will visit your table, so be sure to ask what they recommend based on the catch of the day. Great food, service, and attitude,

What an excellent restaurant to visit !! Fantastic Venetian fish dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients, served in a very hidden cout yard ( = corte sconta). The raid haired lady boss is very fiendly and makes sure that everyone get the best treatment. Try the St-Pierre with orange dressing. Absolutely fab !! A must when in Venice :D

Large eating house with poor tasteless food. Waiters running around chasing their tales. Warm wine. Arrogant management. Not taking American Express cards but are very happy for you to leave your Amex card as collateral while you go and find money and then offering you the worst Grappa to pacify an unhappy customer.

Tucked away behind the Arsenale this elegant and enjoyable restaurants really did not disappoint. Service was very welcoming and the local Venetian specialities were impeccable.

This was our 4th time dining here for lunch, but our first outside of winter, we also had all our family with us. The Antipasti is superb, endless courses keep coming, not much room for the wonderful homemade pasta dishes that followed. The setting, under a vine in the courtyard was lovely, shaded but warm, Service always excellent. They accommodated... More

Firstly, the Castello area is a refreshingly quiet area to explore after the crowds of San Marco & the busier central areas of Venice. We had been to the Bieniale at the Giardini and walked back via the Arsenale, through Castello. The Corte Sconta was recommended by both a friend and, again, the Daily Telegraph list of good restaurants around... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
