My husband and I stumbled across this place on the first of two nights we spent in Venice. It was so packed, we couldn't get a table, but we showed up the following night a little on the earlier side, and nabbed a seat outside. This restaurant is tucked away on a small street off of Calle del Pistor, in... More

Birthday dinner and was desperate to do something different. Really disappointed! Nothing was all that great. Cocktail was ok, burrito was ok, chips and salsa were ok. won' go back unless I am really hard up!.

I found this place completely by accident. I had finished a meal in another nearby restaurant and was still a bit peckish and not yet ready for bed. Saw this place with a crowd outside and investigated. Inside it was warm, busy and very friendly. I explained that I hadn't come to eat, just to have a glass of wine.... More

How fantastic to discover a Mexican restaurant in Venice. Everything was so fresh, so delicious, and beautifully presented. Friendly staff made the meal even better. Definitely on my list for a return visit.

The address above is incorrect. It is actually located in Calle de Asseo. It makes a welcome change from the usual fayre. Waitress spoke good English and was very helpful in deciphering the menu. Starters + main meals + wine, for two, was less than 40 euro - very good value, for Venice. It seemed a very popular restaurant -... More

While just walking around in Venice we wanted to eat something with our little daughter. So we searched a quiet place and found it with iguana. They were so amazing and friendly. The food was perfect - never had better mexican food before. The bill was surprising, too. In a positive way. 35 Euros for a shared starter, two main... More

It took us a while to find Iguanas but it was worth while. The food was fresh and authentic and both the food and atmosphere was a welcome break from the ubiquitous italian trattorias.

The iguana was very fine for lunch - good portions with normal prices (which means cheap in Venice!). Very friendly Service, local people and different food to the italian cuisine. But be aware - they take a lot of fat with the chimichanga!

My wife, a friend and I ate dinner at Iguana last night, and it was a great meal. The Mexican food tasted authentic, and as Americans, we have eaten a lot of Mexican food over the years. We ate the chicken fajitas, and they had perfect taste and texture, just as one would expect to find them in the best... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
