Refurbished - excellent value and friendly.

I have been visiting Venice every year for the last 20 years. I had been going here every year, and then they closed, but this year this place has reopened and I didn't recognise any of the staff. However, this is still an amazing place to eat. It is slightly hidden down a small alley, but it is... read more

I visit Trattoria alle Lance four times already and I have to disagree with previous reviews. It is great pizza place to be in Venice for very friendly price. I had a last time pizza with prosciutto, rucola and tartufo oil. Excellent!!! The staff was very friendly and always welcoming. Fully recommended for people who is looking for simple restaurant... we stayed at Hotel Florida next door, so on our way out from hotel or returning back... we just stopped by if we were hungry. Its nice and peaceful and food and service was great. Even the owner was there to greet us. The waitress spoke little English so I have to use goggle translator. The pizza chef in particular... More

Compared to the dross that lines the main drag and next to the water this was a cut above. We stayed next door and wanted a quick easy meal on way to airport. We chose the very reasonable two course 'tourist' fish menu which at 14.50€ was a bargain. Both spaghetti starters were very good and almost authentic Venetian, but... More

We ate here because a friend had enjoyed it the previous night. (His main course had been delayed that time but the restaurant gave him a free drink as an apology.) The food was very good but what we enjoyed most was the very friendly staff. The pizza chef in particular kept us very entertained with his joking around.

Was right next to our hotel with okay reviews so gave this place a shot. Food came fast and was of okay quality for the price. The pizza was great. Then waited forty minutes for the cheque with the waitress outright ignoring us from point blank range. I understand busy but outright ignoring people is unforgivable especially when they speak... We went here as it was opposite our hotel and we didn't want to walk too far after a day of sightseeing. We both went for the set 'tourist menu' but I went for the fish one and my husband went for the meat one. We both enjoyed it. My mussel spaghetti was great and had quite a few mussels... More

We had a couple hours to tour Venice and walked down a few back streets and walked by this restaurant. We probably would not have stopped if it wasn't for the large Italian telling us about the lunch special. I eat pizza at almost every meal when given the chance so it was an easy choice. The pizza looked like... More

After walking by this restaurant for two days and noticing locals enjoying their meals, we decided to give it a go for dinner. It was somewhat disappointing that the pizza oven had been closed down for the day. My husband ordered a wonderful pasta dish and I had the shrimp with risotto. We were in foodie heaven. The food was... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
