Don't understand all the good reviews. We went in the morning to take a coffee . the waiter was as awful than his coffee. For a coffee at the bar, more expensive than anywhere else and the worst coffee of Venice.

Wandered down several streets before finding a coffeeshop that drew me in. With its quiet charm and inviting atmosphere, Cafe Filermo was a great find. The owner was very friendly, offering advice on places to eat and things to see while in Venice. The coffee was priced about what most Venician coffeeshops are (2 euros for coffee, 2.50 for cappuccino)--more... More

Dropped in on this wine bar/cafe on my last night in Venice. Owner/operator is an amazing and hospitable host. Great wine and great company.

Stopped for a prosecco the first night, very friendly staff and got some free salami too! Came back for the amazing hot chocolate and croissant. All hot chocolate should be like that. Came back again for a perfect espresso after lunch one day. It became our place to stop off on the way back to the bus stop. Cosy and... More

Nice service, but they charge 2 euro for an espresso. I can't recommend this cafe. You can get this quality anywhere in Venice.

Very welcoming and friendly bar often stopped off for a night cap. Our two children would have a Hot chocolate which they said was to die for.

We visited Cafe Filermo on our last day in Venice and left regretting that we had only been the once. Amazing little cafe, great coffee and spritz, all set off by an incredible host who just kept giving. "Brazil" was awesome.

My wife and I happened across this tiny little space completely by accident as we traveled along Strada Nova. Tucked in right where Strada Nova turns into Rio Terra Maddalena, is this little gem of a place. Don't have high expectations of space, it is small, with no more than 9 seats - two at a table, four at the... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
