Thank goodness for this gem

Venice is a tourist city and most of the restaurants are ordinary at best. This gem is not near ant tourist site, it is difficult to find and it is well worth all the effort. We did ed outside along a canal. We were the only English speakers at the restaurant. The food was delicious, the... read more

I spent three days in Venice in August 2015 and whilst walking around I happened upon this small restaurant. It is situated a little off the beaten track, away from the busiest areas of the city, on a narrow fondamente right next to one of the minor channels. So a nice and quiet place to sit by one of the... More

We stayed 4 days in Venice. In general we do not like to go to the same restaurant when on vacation. But Antica Osteria da Gino was the exception. After having great meals in Amalfi and Rome it can sometimes be hard to find a good restaurant in the touristic Venice. But this restaurant is a gem. Nothing fancy but... More

Today I had one of the best meals on this holiday – or even longer time. The 3 of us shared an appetizer with really nice fish and seafood. After that one had Venetian liver; one had spaghetti with clams and one sea bass – all really delicious. And the suggested wine was also really good. Next time we visit... More

We had lunch here based on TA reviews and the fact that we were visiting the nearby Biennale gardens. We ate outside by the canal and it was such a wonderful setting away from the crowds and with laundry hanging on the upstairs balcony etc.. we did not feel like we were in Venice but rather in a small Italian... Away from the beaten track in Venice, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at this delightful backstreet restaurant. Away from the tourists (like me) and on the edge of a canal, you feel like you are properly eating at a proper Venitian cafe. Staff were good, food was excellent, not too expensive but whatever you pay it is worth... More

We saw this by accident on Google maps and after reading the reviews decide to give it a go. Excellent! If you like sea food its a must. Out of the way and quiet, the staff were really friendly and the food was superb. Definitely recommended

We stayed in the East side of Venice and this was a close walk. The restaurant is a charming sidewalk cafe style along a quiet residential canal. Their fish was terrific, we got the spaghetti with clams, branzino and sea bream and they were all fresh and yummy. The wine was also good, and the atmosphere was so relaxing and... More

Nice and quiet dinners on the waterfront. Close to Biennale Giardini. Tasty fresh dishes, pastas, salads, fish. Very friendly service and a welcome with an aperativo. We went back several times and enjoyed every meal.

I went to view Bienale and before entering decided to stop for lunch and, by pure chance, found this wonderful Osteria. I started with vino blanco, with a side salad. The tomatos were perfectly ripe, and the bread served along side, wonderful. I then had taglietelle with scampi and i was in heaven with the wonderful tastes and smell of... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
