Fancy

As others have written, this is really expensive. All cafés in the square are, so no exception. But the atmosphere and live music compensate, so if you can afford one visit, treat yourself. I had a simple rossini. At the price of 21 euros my heart bled a little when I ordered it (not to... read more

The food at Grancaffe Quadri may not be the best, but the experience of sitting in Piazza, surrounded by the beauty, the people, the music and the timeless beauty of St Marks Cathedral are well worth it. A little pricey, but you seem to drift across time as you imagine centuries of tradition and fame: Casanove, Lord Byron, the Brownings...it's... More

You'll pay the most you've ever paid for this amazing gelato or a drink but go away happy you did! The live music, location and quality of every detail are very special. How many nights are you going to be having a gelato in Venice under the stars in St Marks Square anyway?

My best friend of forty years and I were in Venice overnight and after enjoying a wonderful day, wrapping it up with a gondola ride, we stopped to listen to the beautiful music on our way back to our hotel. We decided to have a nightcap, unbeknownst to us that we we were already 12€ in the hole the moment... More

Costly but enjoyable. Similar experience elsewhere for less, but the service was wonderful (prompt, attentive, friendly). Band was playing and that added to the experience. Food was decent (we had sandwiches - veggie, salmon and ham & cheese). 6,00€/person surcharge when band is playing.

Spent the evening with the wife tonight at the Grancaffe Quadri listening to the live band and music. The service was prompt, Bellini great, and gelato awesome. We had a great time! While we sat there, there were quite a few couples/groups of people who sat down and quickly got up after looking at the menu. Yes, it is pretty... More

I know many were complaining about how expensive this famous watering hole in Venice is. If you're passing through PiazzA San Marco and need to wet your whistle, try the small bar off to one side and stand at the counter. An espresso is 1.20, a cappuccino today 2.20. An Italian friend (thank you Pepe) told me about this "al... More

Okay, you are in Venice so be ready to spend some money; still, this is a little over the top. However, the location is one of the best in the civilized world. Table in St. Mark's Square, overlooking St. Peter's, with a four piece ensemble performing classical and operatic selections. Even though the drinks were $20 each, we came here... More

ok, so if you are going to sit in Piazza San Marco for a drink you know it's going to be expensive. So don't go here if you want a cheap drink...treat it as an experience. These cafes on the square pay ridiculous amounts of money to the authorities to have tables outside on the square, so they aren't simply... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
