Good, if you don't worry about the tab

the food was good enough, service was quite good compared to what you could get in Venice. If you don't care about Venice pricing, which we didn't, then this tavern is worth a visit

I would echo the experience of other diners - I only wish I had read TA before going. The food was awful - 3 of us were persuaded to have the special fish platter which was largely inedible being cold and tasteless. My lasagne was poor too. One of our party was quite ill afterwards and although we cannot say... More

I have never left a negative review before but this place I felt deserved it. We have enjoyed some fantastic meals in our 4 night stay in Venice (la caravella stands out) however I think it's fair to say that this wasn't one of them. The waiter could hardly bring himself to speak to us once he realised we weren't... More

This place was just round the corner from our hotel, looked cozy so we ventured in. Initially waiter attentive cleaning table off for us to sit at, menus given and then disappeared for a while, eventually came back to take order, his attitude was as if we were bothering him! We had an anti pasta each with was as much... More

We were going to the theater, which sounds snobbish, but it wasn't. We decided to give this place a go since we were early and the show was just around the corner. We waited 15 minutes before the person who seated us came to see if we wanted anything, like water, dinner, first aid.....whatever. He seemed annoyed that we were... More

We were staying local and saw this first night. Busy with good atmosphere. The food was good in fact the lasagna and veal fillets were delicious. However, the waiter tried to get me to buy his recommended wine at 29 euros which sounded fine but then turned out to be a half bottle! My wife asked for a side salad... More

I don't know why someone said this restaurant is good, but for us it is terrible, I will never ever go to this restaurant again. For the service, we have to wait for a long time for our food. We ordered the recommendations:bean soup & seafood rice, both of them were too salty. The service fee was also very high... More

We came across this restaurant during a leisure walk around San Macro. We weren't hungry at all (just had some really good pizza as snack from the pizzeria across the restaurant) but it was dinner time so we figured that we gotta eat in order to avoid starving late night. After checking the TA review, we decided to give it... More

To start with, the place was very hard to find because the name of the restaurant on TripAd. Is Gastronomia San Maurizio, but the name that's on the front of the establishment is Tavernetta San Maurizio. We only figure it out it was the same place when we saw the name on a magazine article tapped on the door. Google... More

I agree with the previous reviews, the reason why we came here. The food was authentic and excellent, despite close to the tourist traps. Don't be afraid to go in- first you'll see only the take-away and three tables. The waiter will guide you into another room with view to the street. We had a table by the window, and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
