Best pistachio ice cream ever!

I don't even like ice cream and still went a second time... :-). Especially the pistachio ice cream was very good and large scoops as well!

This became a regular stop during our stay - fave flavours included Amarena (cherry) and Happy Squirrel. Also seemed to be popular with locals.

I've tried many gelato places but this one is definitely not serving gelato but simply regular ice cream. Even though Gelato and Ice Cream is generally the same thing the gelato has different proportion of milk and cream and they missed that part! It tasted almost like buying an ice cream from the grocery store. This review based on my... More

Had gelato here and it was amazing. Spent about an hour getting there but it was very worth it. 100% worth the effort of finding it.

There are hundreds of Gelato stalls in Venice. Pretty much all of them serve the same, predictable single flavored stuff that all the rest do. Obviously factory made. That is why I actually prefer NY or London gelato - more variety and custom made. This is one of the few places that actually breaks the mold and sells unusual flavours... More

It's a tiny kiosk but the gelato is amazing. I had lemon/mint/basil and Amareno and my partner had very dark choc and pink grapefruit. Only E2.50 for 2 scoops. Highly recommended. Takeaway only.

My sister and I found this on tripadvisor and walked over one evening. The girl at the counter was very sweet and explained the contents of any favors we weren't sure of. It was amazing. I had the amaretto and cookie. We came back again the following day to a new round of flavors. This time my sister got the... More

We were fortunate in that our hotel was only a few steps away from this amazing place. We stopped here every evening after dinner to get our gelato fix. We tried so many flavours and they were all absolutely yummy. So, we just dipped into each other's choices so we could try as many as possible. It wasn't cheap but... More

We happened upon La Mela Verde while lost and the interesting flavors drew us in. The salted caramel was among the best I've had, and I make it a policy to sample it almost everywhere. The fruit flavors were bright, and the chocolate was rich and not too sweet. We were eager to make a return visit the following day... More

Both the fruit and cream types are excellent, with silky texture and great flavor. This is simply the best gelato one can ask for.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
