Ideal stop to have a tasty gelato !!!

It was a very hot day, we were really pleased to find La Mela Verde for a lovely family treat !!! They had unusual flavour, such as Nougat, grapefruit or fior de latte !!!

We stayed in a flat nearby for 3 days. It so happens this was the first gelataria we sampled in Italy. My children were first to go while of course being parents we sampled their purchase. I got talking to a local lady who was walking her dog. She was a local lady and told us this was the best... More

My husband and I ate a lot of gelato while we were in Paris and Italy, but I think this might have been the best we had! Simply wonderful! Loved the pistachio!

This place was recommended by the apartment assistant who gave us our keys. He's a native of Venice and knows what's what. We were very happy with the gelato here and probably ate here 3 times over three days! Delicious!

This is a small walk-up gelateria, but has a wonderful selection of hand-made, artisan, gelati. I savor pistachio flavor, and this was the smoothest, most flavorful gelato I'd had in Venice. I chatted with the owner, who speaks English well, and it was apparent he took pride in his business. I recommend this place!

This was the best gelato we had in Venice. There are so many gelato shops and the ice cream gets old. Go out of the way to enjoy this gelato it's fresh and so good. I had the berry, green apple and lemon.

I went here during my staying in Venice because I saw it on Trip Advisor. Line was long and it was moving very slow though a person standing behind the counter was pretty fast. I tried three tastes and those were average. Ricotta and pistachio and cherry with something were ok, but I could barely eat the lemon scoop. I... More

Tried a few around town and we enjoyed this the best!! All types of flavours and even yogurt. Don't forget to ask for a few samples.

This was without doubt the best gelato we had in 14 days in Italy (a minimum of 45 scoops sample size). Very large portions and good value considering everyone else in Venice appeared to be ripping us off.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
