Pretty good

The limoncello flavor was a hit with my aunt. I really enjoyed the chocolate. All of the flavors we tried were good but those two were our favorites.

Gelato is fine, but I don't understand the hype, since it is just a very basic ice cream selection with no particularly outstanding quality.

I wouldn't come back at la mela verde. The ice cream is not as good as the reviews here were suggesting. There are two other options that are far better. If you are not able to find the other two, hence la mela is better than nothing. But for those who are looking for an excellent ice cream forget about... More

They are located close to St. Marks square. We took the "long" route to get there. But, it was worth it. The gelato was excellent, very smooth with a great texture, comparable to gelato in Rome and Florence. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Nearby to St Marks piazza, I found this gelato to be of standard price for Venice but the quality was worth it. I tried the fruit sobert which had small pieces of real fruit, freshly made. The green apple flavour is the namesake and worth trying.

We had tried numerous gelato vendors in Rome, Florence, Milan, Zurich etc etc but never had gelato as good as this. The consistency, the texture, the flavors were absolutely incredible. We finally did some in depth research and found this right near our hotel and is by far the best we have had in over 29 cities!

A short 5 min stroll from the craziness of St Marks (as well as the overpriced bad gelato found there too) is La Mela Verde. Not a big place and on a quiet canal. The melon and mango flavors were refreshing for a very hot summer day. Sit on the canal wall and enjoy.

The chocolate gelato was amazing. I recommend getting a tub as it melts quickly in the heat. Staff are friendly and the ones we saw also speak English

The gelato was amazing - we went back 3 times to have the fior di latte (gorgeous), pistachio (excellent), coconut (very good), nociola (amazing). I would go back for a combination of nociola and fior di latte if I could go back again. Large portions for a good price and friendly staff. Delicious!

After exhaustive research over 12 days in Italy, this was the best Gelato we had. It was inexpensive €1.50 for one scoop & €2.50 for two scoops. Strangely enough, the flavor that it's know for (Green Apple) was not their best flavor by a long shot. We just stumbled upon the place and even though we found our way back... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
