Looking for free wifi..found this interesting-looking place on the canal near Guglie stop. Then tempted by the sign advertising this specialty. My friend loved the unusual sweet onion flavour of the sardines. "Amazing!"Worth trying!

Stopped here on our first night in Venice. Portions were small and the food was mediocre. There are a lot better places close by, try those.

Nice location. Service so so. No ice bucket for the wine in 80 degrees and had to ask for bread. Pizzas overloaded with cheese.

Good local food at reasonable prices. The pasta was very good. Located on a side canal just down from the Ponte Guglie.

Ate here twice during our recent trip to Venice. Pizzas were some of the best we had during our stay, service was friendly, no added service charge, pizzas were cheap despite location and good Italian beers on draught!

Eating near train stations is almost always guaranteed to give you average food. La bella pollastrella is a little better than average but not much. My first dish of limon and olive prawns were clearly frozen, my guess Asian farmed, prawns. The second dish of risotto with scampi although quite tasty and a good portion had the exact same prawns.... More

We ate at this place as we were staying at a nearby hotel. The food was good, we had a meats starter and then 2 pizzas. Food was plentiful and tasty. We had a jug of house wine. The whole meal was very reasonable. Worth a visit if you are staying in the area.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
