Good but nothing special

The trattoria is located on the San Polo district of Venice on the corner of two narrow streets. Nothing exceptional to report about the food. Normal pasta and seafood dishes, a bit overpriced like most touristic places in Venice. The service was efficient and quick. Overall an OK place to have... read more

We went mid week and were enticed into this restaurant which we found by accident. A meal with outstanding lamb and service that was quite frankly only matched by Beef and Wine in Madeira followed. We returned on the following bank holiday and nothing had changed. We were greeted as if we had been a dozen times before and the... More

The owner was there to greet you at the door with a smile . The restaurant was full inside so he ask us if we wanted to sit outside at a table . He served us free wine will we waited. The food was served by a outstanding waitress who took care of all our needs . I rate the... More

We visited this restaurant to have our last dinner in venice, which ended up as the worst idea we had. We got a pizza with muschrooms and prosciutto and some lasagne. The pizza was really awful, premade tomato sauce, very bad quality muschrooms from tin, prosciutto wasn't even prosciutto. I only ate one piece and nobody from the stuff came... More

Nothing exceptional to report about the food or location; the service was efficient. Reasonably priced and probably a better address for lunch than dinner. It seems you have to ask for the various menus available as otherwise you only receive the à la carte one. Unless you have a table in the front near the door, the back room has... More

We ate here our last night in Venice and wished we'd gone sooner so we could visit again. The two seafood pasta dishes and salad we had were on that evening's specials list and came suggested by our waiter. The food was excellent; the service was lovely; and the bill was very budget friendly. I'd vote this place one of... More

This place would not win any culinary awards, but the food is good and portions are generous. We stopped for Christmas lunch having made no prior reservations and were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and efficient service. My first course of sweet and sour shrimp and sardines was very traditional Venetian and quite delicious. Non-fish eating husband picked Caprese... More

'Spaghetti with sea wonders' was amazing, gnocchi with crab was lovely. Venetian speciality of liver and onions was fantastic. House wine was very palatable and dirt cheap. A thoroughly pleasant, unhurried evening, very nice staff.

Taking an evening stroll through the narrow streets of Dorsoduro from the Hotel Palazzo Stern, we ventured upon this local gem. Short walk from Ponte dell'Accademia. Lots of lively locals and romantic couples outdoors on the square. We decided to follow our instincts and try it out. We were not disappointed. Food was very tasty and plentiful. A very good... Our guide recommended this as a place where the fish is excellent and the prices good. It is conveniently located in an alley not too far from the Rialto Bridge. We went for lunch and the place was packed with locals, many families, and some tourists who were enjoying large and long lunches. You could see much of the fresh... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
