Not a restaurant. An ice cream shop!

Trip Advisor really needs to get some additional categories so that a small wine bar, a gelato shop and a bacaro are not all lumped in with restaurants. To the point, the gelato here is the best ever because the flavours are so real. tastes like real fruit.

This is the only place I have had pistachio gelato that did not taste adulterated with almond flavouring. The grapefruit sorbet and pear sorbet taste like the fruits themselves. It is the best.

As promised, the other best gelato is in Venice. It is Gelateria Squero. It is a little hard to find, but well worth the effort. You do not meet too many tourists here, mostly locals. We made many wrong turns and after asking several locals found this little place next to a canal. We had pear, honey and their specialty,... More

I havent tried all gelato sold in Venice however i tried it in 5 different gelaterias. And no doubt this one stands out as very delicious. I tried pistacchio, limone & amaretto - all were yummii. We even visited this place three times during our trip! I was pleasanty surprised to see locals buying gelato here in big trays too.... More

This is truly a little gem, and not difficulty to find when you are on the Zatteri because it faces the Church of San Trovaso and it is very close to the celebrated gondola repair shop. We had been here three years ago and had fond memories of the great flavours and good service. We were right to return. This... More

Venice can gouge you for items known to tourists, especially the gelato. This gelateria, somewhat off the beaten track, offers quite good gelato for very reasonable prices. The much-sought 2 euro cone actually exists. Skip the places on the famous squares charging as much for a scoop of gelato as for a steak dinner, and stroll down to the waterside... More

When in Venice we usually have our Room at the Palazzo Guardi around the corner. Whenever on the the way to or from the hotel, we have to stop here at the gelateria do Squero for a cone of wonderful fior di latte with mirtili or whatever your desire is.

Simone, just a short note to say thank you for being part of our wedding day celebrations, everyone loved your Gelato! It was kind of you to agree to work with the guys at Osteria Al Squero bringing our three chosen flavours down to their place so our wedding guests (x43) could enjoy both a flute of Prosecco accompanied by... I was looking forward to authentic Italian gelato based on previous reviews. On entering the shop, the server was extremely rude and unhelpful. He actually recommended buying the gelato elsewhere as he didn't care. Terrible customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
