It seems that many people don't know about the real specialite de la casa which is "Cassanova's balls". Apparently some years ago a magazine reviewer recommended this item in this pasticceria but at that time they had no idea what she was recommending, but canny Venetians that they were didn't miss a trick and the Cassanova Ball was born! They... More

Stopped here by chance. What a wonderful place to stop for a coffee and a mouthwatering home made cake. A place full of tradition. We will definitely seek out this gem when we visit Venice again

The oldest and most delicious patisserie in Venice. Rizzardini has the most amazing sweets and wonderful service too. Be sure to try the eclairs- the best I've ever had and they're under €2.

Excellent cake shop in Venice - the oldest patisserie in town - make sure to try their frittelle with zabaione at Carnival time

Great place for espresso and if you want to treat yourself...pastry. There is also a nice selection of cookies which I brought home as gifts, which everyone in the office really enjoyed. There is also coffee packaged to go if you want to bring some back with you.

This very small pasticerria is absolutely fabulous. Its been there since 1742 and the owners try to keep to the original traditions. The pastries are to die for and the coffee "perfecto" Once we discovered it we went there 3 times. Soooo good. Its a short walk from The Rialto markets and its cheap, so if you are in the... More

You can have place like this only in Italy. Maybe copied everywhere world wide, but with an horrible result. Because you have to be in place like this to get a real espresso, or a real cappuccino, or a real latte macchiato, or a real marocchino, or a Campari soda, or an Aperol soda, or a Prosecco ... Or an... More

This was recommended to us by a local guide and we spent quite a while trying to find it. It was worth the effort. It is very small and there is no choice but to stand with the locals with your coffee and cake, both of which were good and cheap.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
