Gluten free Italian on a budget

The staff were confident with their gluten-free menu (which was dubious in other restaurants) and I had seafood pasta and liver, both of which were delicious. For both of us having two courses and wine came in at a good price. Service was fast and friendly, especially considering we were a walk-in... read more

We stumbled upon the restaurant after the one that had been recommended to us was closed, just a few doors up. We were very fortunate in that there was only our group of four, and one other table dining at the time, so we were able to be seated immediately and our service was absolutely fantastic. Our host was friendly... More

I have not eaten here, just stepped in for a coffee - but it's fantastic taste and really friendly service made me stay a little longer. I suppose the dishes are just as good. Great place right at the canal.

Happened upon this trattoria on our way back to our hotel. So glad we found it and ventured in for lunch! Small and lively trattoria with friendly service and outstanding food. Highly recommend the fish soup--chock full of fish (shell and other) and the broth is out of this world. Priced very reasonably too. A great find. We'll definitely be... More

I have to give credit to the owner here as he was very welcoming and very efficient (i'll explain below). I ordered the beef filet in red wine sauce, medium rare. When it came it already looked like a bit of a disaster. First it was in a bit of a soup of sauce, which completely overpowered the dish. The... More

So good we came twice during our stay. Everything was very fresh, extremely tasty and well presented. We've had delicious gratinated scallops, the octopus salad is the best i've ever had (and i've had a lot!). The fish and the pasta were also excellent. The staff is very friendly, is is an absolute pleasure to have a meal there!

Our experience our first night in Venice was so good we returned the next night to get more. Peter, I think the proprietor, was SUPER nice and accommodating. The Second time we ate we let him suggest a meal and were not disappointed. It is off the main tourist row, but still is great for tourists like us. The prices... More

The location is off the main streets of town and therefore very quiet. When we got here around 9 pm the place was half empty. We asked the very friendly owner to recommend us something. We ordered a mixed sea plate (14€) for starter. It was just ok. Main courses: spaghetti with tomato and seafood sauce (12€) and soup with... More

We came quite late after drinking red wine from a local vino and making some new friends. Eventually, we decided to eat something and albeit we didn't realise that booking is more than essential. However, this restaurant was willing to have us and did not disappoint. We ordered seafood starter (prawns, razors, clams, octopus) which was fried and tasted divine.... More

Walking past we stopped for a family dinner. Delicious starters of Parma ham, sarde saor, and bruschetta. Delicious mains of seafood risotto. Recommended.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
