Great service, good value, good food

Well worth popping in for a meal..here's why..The most friendly staff ever is the first thing that you experience. We went there with friends. We were the guests of a couple who have lived in Venice for several years, and trusted them to find a great place. This place was superb--the proprietor made recommendations (which we were smart enough to heed), served it personally, and kept coming back to the table to check that we were enjoying the food--yes!... My family and I loved this restaurant and returned twice during our stay in Venice. The pizza was excellent - thin crust cooked to perfection. The caprese di bufalo was outstanding. The staff welcomed us generously and we felt at home. I recommend eating in the interior outside garden.

We live in Venice and this is one of our favorite places for consistently good food. We always bring our visiting friends and family here because of its friendly atmosphere and above all consistently good food. Let Pino recommend. It's a special place. Baci Maurizio&Linda. By the way: both Linda and I have worked in restaurants.

We stumbled off the beaten path to this local restaurant and had amazing pasta dishes. We enjoyed it so much we came back again. I didn't give it a 5 ranking because they were under staffed on a Friday night and the service was ok not great. However, they were working very hard to keep up. You could tell it... More

We found this cute little Family owned restaurant off the tourist path in Venice. It's located in a corner with wonderful garden seating in the back. We thought the food was very good and fresh! The service was good and the wait staff very friendly. We went at least 3 times and each time we were pleased! My wife and... More

We dined at Al Vecio Portal in May and were very pleased. I had a wonderful artichoke/shrimp dish and my companion had ravioli with shrimp--both were delightful and a very good value. We shared a small salad and the requisite liter of wine, which was a little too sweet for our tastes, but the restaurant and overall dinner were terrific.

I have been traveled Italy for almost ten days. All the restaurants that I visited is good, at least good service. I don't understand why this restaurant can get that high rate? Bad service, average food, how come I have to come here and leave in anger?

We've been there due to the good critics on Trip Advisor, but we were so disappointed of the pizza... It was not good at all... Maybe another cook?

Very bad service. Very bad pasta. Very bad mozarella. Very bad wine. What else? We did not try the coffee as we had a fight with the waiterS. Full of tourists. Bolognese is not home-made. Seafood is apparently not fresh - or at least as my ill friend said the next day: not fresh

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
