Great Relaxing Lunch

My wife, a friend and I had a wonderful relaxing lunch at ae Spezie. We were extremely pleased by the turbot and the wine recommended by the host. The turbot was excellently prepared and the wind, a local vintage was a perfect match for our meal. Additionally, the restaurant is far enough away... read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this nice cosy restaurant while wandering the streets of Venice, and decided to have lunch here. I ordered the Sea Bass with potatoes and tomatoes. The sea bass was cooked very well - unusually juicy and succulent - though the portion was quite small, given how good it was. My wife ordered the Spaghetti... More

Very friendly staff, when they saw how tired we are they opened some 30 minutes earlier. We vere served by delicious meals - we recommend to order the mix of Venetian starters. It is not so far from San Marco but the price was reasonable. The general problem in Venice is that all good restaurants open at 7 PM at... More

The service was very slow but we not in a hurry so we didn't mind.I was not too hungry and the Ravioli with lobster was just perfect. All the dishes we ordered were excellent and the dessert, we had tiramisu and panna cotta was excellent. A nice evening was had by all. Would recommend it but not if you are... More

Got filet of beef, lamb chops and some pasta dishes. Our kids loved the steak, more than usual. House prosecco above average - same goes for the red wine. Orange juice was actually fresh orange juice! Unfortunately this evening something must have been wrong as service was extremely slow, and we never got the cichetto we ordered for starters. 4... A friend and I took a girl's trip to Europe starting with three nights in Venice. The desk clerk at our hotel recommended this restaurant. It's off the touristy beaten path and has excellent food. We went to the sister restaurant Ae Spezia at Castello, Riva Schiavoni, 4088-4089, 30122 Veniezia. Tel 041 5289615. The food was wonderful, especially the lamb... More

Family loved this place, really amazing pasta, maybe the best I've had. Nice location too, welcoming staff. The fried calamari should definitely be tried if ever visited.

Really relaxed Restaurant in a lovely quiet setting. Food is outstanding. Pasta authentic home made and the Risotto frutti di mare as good as you can get. Service very friendly and welcoming. You don't feel like a tourist! Give it a try.

Well worth the trip - nicely located on a alley with a breeze. The ravioli lobster and tomato is the best dish I had in Italy.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
