Our first night in Venice. This restaurant is slightly off the beaten track by the side of a canal. Service was good. Wine was over-priced so we stuck to a carafe of house white which was acceptable. We had cream of asparagus soup (delicious) and marinated sardines (ok) to start. Pasta main... read more

Lovely location and the food we did receive was nice. However, spoilt by lack of service and items we ordered not arriving. After waiting for over half an hour for the dessert we ordered, we have up and asked for the bill! Service charge was removed from the bill, but the price was still very high and a 'city tax'... My husband and chose this restaurant for the last dinner out of our short 4 night Italy honeymoon consisting of 2 nights in Rome followed by 2 nights in Venice. What a great find! We had been strolling looking for a nice looking restaurant and initially looked immediately next door as we got to that one first. After a few... More

My wife and I found this little gem because we were in the location following a service at the Orthodox church, San Giorgi dei Greci, on the opposite side of the canal. It is a delightful stretch of canal and the restaurant appears to be at the top of the Rio del Greci and the bottom of the Rio de... More

While in Venice, even though we tried other more expensive trattorie, this remained in our heart, first thanks to its beautiful location next to a canal at Rione dei Greci with the beautiful church of St George of the Greeks, second for the really nice dishes (try Spaghetti with vongole, gamberi e pomodorini!) and third the REALLY KIND PERSONNEL! We were only in Venice for the day and after visiting the cathedral and walking quite a long way around the backstreets were ready for lunch! It was a wet day with High tide but warm so when we saw the restaurant on a "side" canal we decided to eat outside. As it was quite late we were the only... More

Venice is full of great restaurants, and this must be one of the cheap in terms of value for money. The ambiance is typically Venetian, sitting beside a quite canal easily reached behind the Riva, with a chef who knows how to cook fresh fish to perfection. This was our 4th visit to Venice, which is irresistible, and we ate... More

We ate here on our first night in Venice. I had the set menu. Spaghetti with cuttlefish ink followed be sea bass with 'crazy water'. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend!

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
