Home Cooking Venetian Style: Well worth trying the specials ...

In a world of "foodie" over-hype, La Rivetta hit the spot for us for it was home-cooking and very simple; but done very well. The charming canal-side location caught our attention. We observed on the outdoor big wooden menu board that they had free wi-fi, which being an international tourist free wi-fi is required as to not use costly cellular data. Also, we looked for the "no service fee" and found that on the menu as well; I'd rather not pay a service fee... More

Stopped in for a quick lunch and was delightfully surprised by the friendly service and delicious food we found! Ate inside because it was very cold out, and found the restaurant very clean. Updated bathrooms. Small beer selection, but it was good. Gnocchi quattro formaggi was very good (and probably very fattening), and gnocchi al salmone was also very good.... More

Lots of locals eat here and I see why. It is not fancy, but the food is very good and reasonable. The food here was much better than the top rated place near St. Marks and much cheaper. The pasta is delicious. The waiters were terrific with my 5 year old grand-daughter.

If you want a relaxed meal that stretches out all evening, this is not the place. It's a small place with very small tables, all very close to each other, frequented by tourists and locals the same. It's very busy and service goes quick, not exactly too friendly but efficient. We came here on our first night in Venive, Nov.15... More

Tucked alongside a canal this could be a pretty location, but currently next door is a building site and the local co-op. We ate here on a Sunday night and were very tired so not up to trailing around. We normally steer clear of restaurants that advertise their free Wi-Fi and try to pull tourists in. But the food surprised... More

Poor service like not interested and no help with the menu the main man was wearing a thick comfy sweater and not looking interested in any way. We were very disappointed as we were looking forward to a lovely Italian meal it didn't happen we had little interest from the staff except to order and pay the bill

I am being carefull of writing bad reviews but i am sorry i entered this retaurant. The service is bad. They never smile. Small plates with food that tastes like they just used microwave to make it warm. I bet they freeze thair food. The prices are high. I am sorry but i will never come back. They got from... More

La Rivetta offers outdoor dining right next to the canal, a charming venue, and per the signs, free wi-fi. We thought it looked perfect for our first dinner in Venice. While we noticed that there was only 2 other diners, we passed it off due to our early dining hour. Oh, how we should have kept on going! We were... More

We checked out this restaurant on friends' recommendation- got promptly seated on a busy Saturday night. Our waiter was very personable, and an accordian player roamed through the restaurant to add to the Italian atmosphere. Food was good, but there was no limoncello! Other than that, nice way to start our time in Venice.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
