Good location, average food, good Aperol spritz

We hadn't booked anywhere for dinner so stopped at this little restaurant in a little campo. It started well with good Aperol (with blood orange which is always a good sign). My starter of sea bass ravioli was lovely, but husband didn't choose so well. There was rather a long wait before our main... read more

We ate at the Hostaria Galileo twice during a short holiday in Venice. Good selection on the menu, great service, staff friendly and helpful. We had some excellent fish dishes there. You can also just enjoy the peace of the square with an evening drink and watch the locals going by and walking their dogs. Great food and a very... More

We ate here after being more or less "pulled in" by a server while wandering the streets, lost, trying to find a restaurant that had caught our eye on TripAdvisor. Hungry and tired after a day of exploring, we decided to go with it. Overall the food was decent. We shared a seafood platter that had all sorts of things on... More

A charming place with lovely staff and great food. We happened upon it while we were wandering on some side streets and we were glad we did. The pasta dishes were great, had we been hungrier we would have tried the whole fish, it sounded amazing

My family of four recently ate here during a trip to Venice. Good service, good food (although the pasta with tomato sauce lacked a bit of imagination). Pizzas and pasta vongole were well received! Got a bit crowded towards the end of our meal and service suffered slightly.

We stumbled upon this little outdoor setting belonging to the Hostaria Galileo which is not far from Venice central however the area is much quieter. The setting is pleasant and the waiters professional and proficient. We were served quickly and the meals were of good quality. The outdoor area patrons were also able to use the main restaurant toilets which... More

Great location in a square but the two pizzas we had were poor. The toppings were minimal. The location is very good in the open air in the square and the service is fine but the quality of pizza is very disappointing.

This restaurant, amongst many of the same in Venice, offers the same menu as everyone else, so in short "bland, uninspiring and tasteless". However, this one manage to surpass the other infamous restaurants by making some of the food actually inedible. Fritto Di pesce, which doesn't require a science, extremely salty and possibly made from frozen fishes. Antipasto Di pesce... More

We should have left when we noticed the sugar paper squares covering the tablecloth. The food was more expensive here than other places we ate, yet nothing special. The pizza was the worst we had in Italy, flat and lifeless. The lasagne included small bits of bone. The 75cl bottles of water charged for are actually 70cl. The bread basket... More

Cheap for Venice, but the service and food was poor. The only positive thing was that the food came quite quickly. Seemed like a regular frozen pizza thrown in a regular oven.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
