Open arms!

Due to heavy traffic we arrived two hours later than scheduled. We phoned to cancel because of this but the manager told us it was no problem. We were welcomed with open arms and were seated in the garden. We had a lovely meal and did not feel any pressure to rush. The food was very good and well... read more

We were in venice for three days and spent two of our evenings here. The food was lovely, especially the gnocchi with crab and the mediterranean tuna. Quality of the food is great. You can taste the freshness of the products. Loved it here.

Nice little restaurant in nice area. Very friendly service, (though they seemed surprised about a dining-alone guests). You'll have the finest most tender insalata mista you can remember. In the Michelinguide but not more expensive than average touristspots in costly Venice. Worthwhile going there for this fine kitchen.

A really nice restaurant off a small canal, seating in the garden, with Venetian and other delicious Italian dishes. We started with the salted cod with polenta, a Venetian speciality. Well, the cod was creamy, but not salty, while the polenta was very salty indeed. It was a nice try, but won't order it again - not because it wasn't... More

Ribot is a very famous Italian race horse. We ate here twice. Both times in the quiet, leafy garden in back. Friday lunch and Saturday dinner. Fish dishes are tremendous. Try the fish skewers. Octopus salad was the best I've ever eaten. I couldn't believe octopus could be so tender. All wines are between 18 and 28 Euros. A wonderful... More

We (myself and my 14 year old daughter) choose this restaurant for our last night in Venice. After a lot of Caprese and Pizza, my daughter this time choose a few more sophisticated dishes and enjoyed them thoroughly. I loved my Tagliata di Tuna, which had a nice twist with crunchy (fried) vegetable julienne. Service is very good, with the... More

We had a nice lunch in venice here. We were greeted by a young lady and older man - the older gentleman was so proud of his food and menu, he was very enthusiastic. One part of the menu is Venetian style, the other is Ribot style and then there's daily specials. I had the spaghetti and clams (vongole) and... More

We were excited to eat here having seen good reviews, but were let down. The venetian appetizer included some undercooked Scampi. Worse still was the coarse salt all over the plate that mixed into the crab and polenta, which was a horrible surprise. The main courses (clam spaghetti and roast beef) were nice enough, but nothing special. Wait staff was... More

We're not very good at choosing restaurants and, for any proprietor who happens to be wading through these reviews of ours, it's a good idea to lavish a whole ton of money on flash decor and absolutely nothing on chefs, kitchens and food and you can be guaranteed at least two diners. They might be the only two you ever... More

Best meal (and overall dining experience) in Venice...by far!! Food was excellent. Ambiance in the garden was romantic. Prices we're very reasonable for the quality of food we got compared to other restaurants we've been to in Venice. Waiter was very friendly and helpful explaining/recommending items on the menu. If you want the table for the night, you got it...they... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
