Bar Verde Venice. OK Cafe

We dived in here out of the rain. The food was OK and the coffee also OK. The WC was acceptable. The staff pleasant. I didn't feel I was ripped off. About 35 pounds for six sandwiches and drinks.

Venice is the most beautiful place on Mother Earth . Went there for a Macchiato, an orange juice and a Panini before we hit the busy lines of the Museums. Was told if I wanted it ( for here or to go ) and clearly said for here !! Then at the far left side of the bar .. A... More

My family stopped in here for breakfast and bought 2 croissants, 2 cappuccinos, a yogurt and a 5 Euro fruit cup. It cost 25 Euros for two adults and our two year old son. It wasn't worth the price but wasn't bad.

A great little bar offering great service, excellent snacks & great prices. We found this place on our way for a last night meal and wish we'd found it earlier.

Great bar with a large selection of good food, very busy at lunchtime and popular with the locals which in my eyes is a good thing. Remember it is cheaper to drink at the bar as in all bars in Italy.

The tuna trammezini at the Bar Verde are stuffed with tuna--and not with mayonnaise. That's why I walk all the way from the far side of the Piazza San Marco, where I stay for extended periods of time, to the Campiello SS Giacomo e Filippo, for the friendly service and great trammezini: tuna with olives, tuna with tomato, tuna with... For having a quick refreshment or snacks this can be an option. There are a few tables outside in a crowded small street. Coffee was moderate.

My wife and I visited Venice recently and we found this place in the Rick Steves guide book. It is a small place with very fast/brusque service. However, the food is good and you can get in and out of the place without being hassled to buy or pay more than you expect to. They have a good mix of... More

I can't understand the bad reviews of this little gem of a place! We ate here 4 times - not full meals but coffee and pastries and we had the little sandwiches and cichetti for lunch one day. The food and coffee were delicious and the service was friendly. You do need to order at the counter and then take... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
