Went here for lunch. Lovely little place with great ambience, service and food. We had a shellfish starter, lasagne and spaghetti vongole. All were excellent. Unpretentious and reasonably priced too.

Went here for lunch with our three kids (7, 7, & 9). The kids had the lasagna, while we shared the amazing Adriatic seafood platter as a starter. If you like seafood it's a must try. For lunch I then had the sepia in ink with polenta and my wife had the house-recipe pasta in scampi sauce. Both were fantastic.... More

We found this small restaurant quite close to our hotel In Venice and booked for our last meal before returning to the UK. A great decision. The food was wonderful....I had succulent delicate swordfish steak on a bed of rocket, with capers cherry tomatoes and olives. Delicious. The service was excellent, friendly, and caring. Excellent value.I highly recommend this restaurant,... More

Waiter was attentive to every need which is rare in Europe. His recommendations for dinner and wine were spot on. Will visit again!

We were recommended this restaurant by the head honcho of Dal Moro's because they were closed on Sundays. The pasta at Alla Staffa was truly excellent, the wife had the Raviolli with white asparagus and ricotta and I had the lasagna. The lasagna was the best I've ever tasted, even the wife thought it was absolutely excellent when she tasted... More

Went for dinner. Turbot, spaghetti with fish, sea bass, salads and bolognese. The waiter was very kind and patient to stay with each table until everyone understood. Fish was excellent. Wine (maybe we were to modest) average. The crowd was obviously tripadvisor/Lonely planet followers. Bread average. Not a bad choice, but somehow forced to live up to its own social media... More

We tried to come for dinner but they were only taking reservations since it's a smaller place. We returned for lunch and it didn't disappoint. The scampi was excellent - fresh and tasty.

Sat down for lunch here and ordered the spaghetti with clams and home made lasagna. Both dishes were excellent but the lasagna was the winner. Was baked fresh to order in its own little dish and was served with the cheese sizzling against the plate. Service was very friendly and prices were quite reasonable for Venice. The host allowed us... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
