What a place!

Small, cozy restaurant, a bit hidden in some small street outside from the center, but it's worth looking for it. Owner was extremely nice person, he gave a good suggestion for food and drinks. Traditional Venetian food, made in accordance to owner's grandma's recipes. Prices were adequate to the... read more

Estava fechado no sábado que lá fomos e não tinha horário a porta.. Não sei se estará fechado de vez :/ It was closed when we went there on a Saturday night and no information about the opening times.. Don't know if it is definitely closed.. :/

Went tonight based on Trip Advisor stating it was open until 10pm (restaurant's own website under construction so no info there). After a bit of trouble locating the exact street due to my fairly vague map, we were very disappointed to discover the shutters down and the restaurant closed (this was just after 7pm). A very bad start to the... More

We visited in March 2015. The restaurant was just round the corner from our hotel and the owner recommended it . We booked the restaurant for my 30th birthday and we're not disappointed. Friendly service, 4 lovely courses of food and some lovely wine to match. A must when u visit venice.

The food, the waiters, the wine....everything was perfect! Be sure to call and make a reservation because people were getting turned away all night. Would love to go back. This place definitely set the bar for the rest of our honeymoon.

We booked a table and enjoyed the intimate atmosphere in this small restaurant. Some just visited the bar and others enjoyed the quality food. The cheese and meat starter platter for 2 was enough for 4. A gorgeous selection of meat and cheeses. The sea bream was both beautiful to behold and eat. A very special place to visit off... More

Eating out in Venice can be costly and a total let down, unassuming cafes dishing out medicre meals can charge a small fortune. Then luckily we stumbled across Osteria Alla Staffa, in the Sestiere of Castello. Just off the beaten path, this small and welcoming place serves delicious local food made with fresh high quality ingredients. Not super cheap (at... More

We were in Venice for 5 nights and were fortunate to find this gem of a restaurant toward the end of our trip. It is very small so you need s reservation but well worth it. The food is fresh and excellent. The people who run the place warm and friendly and just so like-able. If we had more nights... More

This place has it all - great food, excellent service and cozy ambience. For starters we had the scallops and razor clams to share - the only problem was that I had to share these beauties. The seafood ravioli (black from squid ink) with the saffron sauce was absolutely delicious. An off the beaten track find full of locals -... More

Guys, call the place to see if they are open or not. We tried going to this place twice based on the hours posted on both Yelp and TripAdvisor. Let's just say not accurate at all. Unfortunately, we were not able to check this place out during our stay in Venice.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
