The clerk at our hotel recommended this place to us. I had been disappointed in our previous meals in Venice and was looking for some place to eat dinner that was not "tourist-y" but had good food at reasonable prices. Osteria 1518 was the perfect recommendation. The waiter explained the dishes well and was attentive and friendly. The food all... More

After reading the reviews on TA my wife and i decided to have lunch here. The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices. The service fast and attentive. I liked it because unlike other Venice restaurants you don't walk out feeling you just had mediocre food at exorbitant prices.

My wife and I had dinner here last week based on previous reviews and it was an absolutely wonderful place. We walked in without reservation and were warmly welcomed. We had a very nice evening with very good food and very friendly service. Our 3 course dinner with a bottle of wine totalled around 120 EUR which certainly is reasonable... More

Very nice restaurant with great food and wine. It was nice to experience such a nice establishment with many locals dining out and celebrating. The food was plentiful and tasty holding true to seasonality and locally sourced ingredients. The berry liquor at the end our meal was a wonderful treat and something we did not expect. Great value compared to... More

Sadly Venice is full of these places with managers making an effort to rip off tourists knowing that most will never return. As a non-Italian speaking business traveller often going to Venice sadly this also hits me on occasions. Even as the food is quite ok, the osteria will go to great lengths to squeeze every last euro penny out... More

Osteria 1518 is what makes Venice truly Italian - delicious food, intimate setting, and genuinely familial. My wife and I didn't have plans for New Years in Venice and stopped by this restaurant as it was opening at 7pm. The owner Lolo said his restaurant was completely booked for the night but that he could fit us in. The restaurant... More

We went to Osteria 1518 in September, based on a recommendation from our hotel. The food was fantastic! Lolo is very warm, friendly, and funny. If you can't decide, let him pick a dish for you. He'll choose a good wine, too. He's so good at what he does, he'll guarantee that you like what you get. How can you... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
