A great place to stumble upon

As you're advised to do we wondered away from St Marks and then popped on the TA App and this little beauty popped up about 100yds from where we were. Food is simple but very tasty, you know it's going to be good when it's full of locals. Very reasonably priced too at 24euros for two mains... read more

For the low, low price this was fine. If you're hungry and on a budget then this does the job. Just don't expect too much.

Food was average to poor - only had a pizza which you would expect to be good but I have had better at home. My other halfs meal was pork escalope - tough and fatty which it should not be - price was OK but then I wouldnt have expected to pay any more for the quality of food we... More

I did not count how many times I have had meals in Rosticceria Gislon. I just love their food. I always consume my food and drink on the ground floor. What did I order? I have tried their seafood salad, squid ink pasta, seafood (again) rissoto/ Italian rice, calamari... well, to me, their food is of reasonable price. Would love... More

I went there for dinner at around 18:30. Ordered a fish risotto with grilled fish (2 dishes) to share with a friend, as we did in many italian restaurants so far. The risotto was great, the fish was not and the portions were not enough for us both. We then tried the fried snacks. Some were good, like the mozarella... More

We ordered calamari and mixed fried fish with polenta. It was not freshly cooked. Old & fairly dried out. We stopped at Gislon late in the evening, about 22:00, so I guess we should've known better.

Who said food in Venice is expensive and touristy? This little restaurant can prove that wrong. We went during lunch hour and it was indeed popular with locals and tourists, not so easy to find a seat. If you don't like eating at the bar or at the crowed tables on the ground floor, you can go up to the... More

This place was recommended to us by our AirBnB host and we totally loved it here. With 9 of us in the party we were spread out along the windows, but that was just fine for us. All of the food was amazing -- the spaghetti vongole and nero di seppia were superb. The price was very good as well!

I re-discovered this place by instinct after a gap of thirty years! It was totally unchanged. You can order antipasti that are visible under the counter, or a cooked dish that comes out from the kitchen. They give you a placemat and cutlery to eat right on the counter. Or, if you're lucky, you can find your own table. It... More

We found this place on Trip Advisor and were very pleased. It is as the reviews say, but if you are unsure the staff will spend time helping and advising. We had Lasagne and sea food spaghetti with the house wine which was excellent value and even managed to sit at a table. We then went back the following lunchtime... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
