Description: Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge...
Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco is an upmarket, romantic restaurant in very cool style that enjoys a high-flying gastronomic reputation. The vaulted dining room is decorated in sophisticated terracotta and black with impressive shining globe lighting. The bar is wittily decorated with dressmakers’ forms and sexy corsets – great conversation starters. The menu is classically-inspired Venetian of a high order, focusing on things from the sea and changing every two months to take advantage of the and array of the freshest ingredients in true Italian style and pastas and desserts are all made in-house. In warm weather the dining room sprawls out onto the adjoining campiello for the loveliest al fresco dining anywhere – the Venetians who crowd Ai Mercanti certainly think so.

We enjoyed our Valentine's dinner at Ai Mercanti in Venice. The service is impeccable, speaks good french and provides interesting advice for wine and food in general. We ate the fish with cobb salad and the burger, the two meals were delicious, and the deserts were a HIT ! A nice evening in a cosy and calm environment.

The presentation of the food is perfect. The flavours were excellent. The portions were on the smaller side, but not unexpected considering it is a gastronomic experience. Broad wine selection, from €19 to €1500 per bottle, plus wines by the glass. Staff were attentive and friendly, with a quirky sense of humour that an Australian (like me) can appreciate.

We booked this restaurant before arriving in Venice as wanted to have a treat whilst we were there. The restaurant was pretty empty but we were seated in a lovely corner spot and the atmosphere was still good despite being quiet. We both had fish dishes but all the food looked wonderful that we saw coming out. The deserts are... More

This place is hidden away off a main street in a small courtyard, opposite a shop selling organic produce. The food is excellent; fresh and tasty (gluten-free catered for), and the service was great; on our second visit we made small additional requests which were dealt with easily. Definitely one of the better places to eat in Venice.

This small restaurant hidden in a courtyard not far from St Mark's Square is a great find. The dining rooms are simple and elegant, the food imaginative and the service friendly and professional. In an area notorious for rip-off tourist traps this is one to seek out. Prices are extremely reasonable, about 40 euros for 3 courses, and the wine... More

We found this restaurant by chance and we're not disappointed. The menu was fabulous, the home made bread delicious and we finished off with the most amazing deconstructed apple crumble! The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and very efficient. The crowd was sophisticated. Not full of tourists. A must find for your stay in Venice.

We were looking for somewhere a bit different for a birthday celebration, and were recommended to Ai Mercanti but the Telegraph guide to Venice. Without this we would never have come across it by chance, as it is tucked away in a small square off a back street in the St Marks area, and even with a map it was... More
