Description: Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge...
Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco is an upmarket, romantic restaurant in very cool style that enjoys a high-flying gastronomic reputation. The vaulted dining room is decorated in sophisticated terracotta and black with impressive shining globe lighting. The bar is wittily decorated with dressmakers’ forms and sexy corsets – great conversation starters. The menu is classically-inspired Venetian of a high order, focusing on things from the sea and changing every two months to take advantage of the and array of the freshest ingredients in true Italian style and pastas and desserts are all made in-house. In warm weather the dining room sprawls out onto the adjoining campiello for the loveliest al fresco dining anywhere – the Venetians who crowd Ai Mercanti certainly think so.

'Superb Hidden Restaurant'

Recommended by our hotel, what a great recommendation that was. It's hidden away but well worth finding. We searched for it in the day and made a booking for that evening. The service is a lot for attentive then any other restaurant we dine in. The food was superb, a must on your visit to Venice

Ai Mercanti is the sort of restaurant you wouldn't expect to stumble upon in the tourist-crazy Venice. First of all, it's quite hard to find, but once you find it, you'll want to come back. The menu is very non-traditional in a sense that you wouldn't find the regular stuff like macaroni and cheese. However, the owners say that the... More

My wife and I and our four adult children (18-26) ate here on our first night of an 8 day trip to Italy. We researched on TA and decided on Ai Mercanti. It is definitely hard to find as it really isnt on Calle Dei Fuseri. As you walk on this street (we were coming from Rialto and heading to... More

We had 2 nights in Venice before we boarded a cruise. Our hotel recommended this place. They drew out on a map where we needed to go and we found it easily. Without the map you'd struggle as it's down an alley. We loved the quirky decor, nice menu and it was very friendly. We had great food and nice... More

We searched this place out because of the trip advisor reviews and we are so pleased we did, we have found every place on that has good reviews on trip advisor since visiting Italy on our 5 week trip has not let us down and every place that we didn't research we were disappointed with, so we managed to find... With pretty much every restaurant around the main tourist spots serving the same menu and consistently average quality this restaurant was a real find. Hidden away in a backstreet it took a while to find but the food was excellent and no more expensive than typical restaurants. We started with a special of the day tomato , tomato , tomato... More

Stumbled upon this quiet place and we could not have been happier! The restaurant is located in a courtyard, away from the crowds. The menu is short and tasteful. The food was delicious and the wine had the right temperature - a great lunch! Ask the staff for the desserts that are not on the menu!

Away from the hustle and bustle we found this quiet little oasis. Excellent service, very nice food and wine. Great desserts! We sat outside in the small piazza, so cannot comment on the inside. A truly nice dinner to conclude a hectic day touristing.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
