Description: Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge...
Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco is an upmarket, romantic restaurant in very cool style that enjoys a high-flying gastronomic reputation. The vaulted dining room is decorated in sophisticated terracotta and black with impressive shining globe lighting. The bar is wittily decorated with dressmakers’ forms and sexy corsets – great conversation starters. The menu is classically-inspired Venetian of a high order, focusing on things from the sea and changing every two months to take advantage of the and array of the freshest ingredients in true Italian style and pastas and desserts are all made in-house. In warm weather the dining room sprawls out onto the adjoining campiello for the loveliest al fresco dining anywhere – the Venetians who crowd Ai Mercanti certainly think so.

Away from the hustle and bustle we found this quiet little oasis. Excellent service, very nice food and wine. Great desserts! We sat outside in the small piazza, so cannot comment on the inside. A truly nice dinner to conclude a hectic day touristing.

We had been grazing all day and ideally were searching for a bar for more cinccetti but chanced on this place hidden in a little courtyard. We have been trying new things all week and were apprehensive as we weren't incredibly hungry. However we ordered two courses, the waiting staff were very friendly and nice to us which we are... Off the beaten path, sat outside in the alley. Very good food and delightful staff. Not inexpensive but we felt a good value for the food. The wine was a little pricey for Italy. Our best food in Venice!

We were looking for a lunch spot after a visit to the Doge’s Palace and Il Ridotto (1 Michelin star) was fully booked so our hotel concierge recommended Ai Mercanti , very near our hotel. I recalled some good reviews and took a chance. It was set off the main road and you do have to get clear instructions to... More

We were looking for another restaurant and Venice with its lanes and by-lanes confused us, and confused my GPS too, so we landed here, looked at the TA rating and thought of trying it out. We did not fancy the outside arrangement and chose to sit inside, which was nice, with a warm and welcoming ambience. The food was nothing... More

We liked our cheese plate and pasta bit waiter not friendly and the little courtyard looks run down. Could eat inside but too hot. Locals seem to like this place and feel welcome but we did not.

We went here on the recommendation of a reception person at our hotel. The penny should have dropped when she made the booking for us and gave us the Restaurant's business card. The night we visited only four or five tables were occupied. Without going into detail the food is OK but its just not the sort of food you... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
