Modern gourmet cuisine with an atmosphere of a wine bar

Creative modern kitchen but not pretentious in any way. Very nice and friendly stuff. Most of the dishes we tried were very good. The duck breast was simply amazing. "Apparently crispy egg" is definitely worth trying.

Went here as it was rated on TA but overall was disappointed. Firstly found the male waiter a bit rude he told us we had to order a starter and main course at the same time otherwise we'd wait over an hour for the next course. I didn't buy this and unsurprising when we ordered the food came quickly! I... More

Ai Mercanti serves great food and wine at a very reasonable price in an otherwise expensive city. The restaurant can be a little difficult to find, but give it a go, it is worth it.

The menu list was small. One Page. And we like that. We like, if cook and owner have put their thinking around menu and are ready to take the risk to surprise us. They did. Others left before ordering (no filet mignon on the menue nor the ordinary pasta dish). A pity. We are glad we stayed. Service impeccabile, perfect... More

Located in a tiny piazza around the corner from the Resdenza one almost feels like bringing bread crumbs so as to not get lost – but the place was worth the 3 minute trip. We liked it so much on our first evening in town that we booked it for our last evening. The food is simple with variations on... More

This overpriced and overvalued restaurant is oozing with atmosphere but not enough of what matters. The food was pretty good but the menu was limited with small portions yet with prices that one would expect a better value for the price paid. The service was slow at times as well. There are better options in the city.

Whilst looking for something light to eat and maybe a bottle of nice wine, We stumbled upon this restaurant. It was late to find somewhere good, and on entering this establishment we were given a very warm welcome. We requested something simple we could maybe share and a nice bottle of wine, The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the... More

This restaurant was close to our hotel (La Commedia) and was recommended by the hotel and by Trip Advisor. The interior is gorgeous, the wait staff very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. We came back for a second dinner because we knew we would get a great meal. In addition, they were able to offer nut free... More

First of all, the staff were all very pleasant and helpful, which makes for a nice experience. I felt the decor inside was a bit dated, heavy on gold and shiny black surfaces. I think it was trying to create a feeling of opulence and extravagance which to me spoilt the place a little bit. It made me feel like... More

Food and service were great. They just take themselves a little too seriously. I could have done without the detailed description of each plate set before us--we'd already ordered and knew what we were getting!

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
