Description: Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge...
Ristorante Ai Mercanti in the heart of Venice between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco is an upmarket, romantic restaurant in very cool style that enjoys a high-flying gastronomic reputation. The vaulted dining room is decorated in sophisticated terracotta and black with impressive shining globe lighting. The bar is wittily decorated with dressmakers’ forms and sexy corsets – great conversation starters. The menu is classically-inspired Venetian of a high order, focusing on things from the sea and changing every two months to take advantage of the and array of the freshest ingredients in true Italian style and pastas and desserts are all made in-house. In warm weather the dining room sprawls out onto the adjoining campiello for the loveliest al fresco dining anywhere – the Venetians who crowd Ai Mercanti certainly think so.

Meh Good but Not Great

This overpriced and overvalued restaurant is oozing with atmosphere but not enough of what matters. The food was pretty good but the menu was limited with small portions yet with prices that one would expect a better value for the price paid. The service was slow at times as well. There are better... read more

Whilst looking for something light to eat and maybe a bottle of nice wine, We stumbled upon this restaurant. It was late to find somewhere good, and on entering this establishment we were given a very warm welcome. We requested something simple we could maybe share and a nice bottle of wine, The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the... More

This restaurant was close to our hotel (La Commedia) and was recommended by the hotel and by Trip Advisor. The interior is gorgeous, the wait staff very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. We came back for a second dinner because we knew we would get a great meal. In addition, they were able to offer nut free... More

First of all, the staff were all very pleasant and helpful, which makes for a nice experience. I felt the decor inside was a bit dated, heavy on gold and shiny black surfaces. I think it was trying to create a feeling of opulence and extravagance which to me spoilt the place a little bit. It made me feel like... More

Food and service were great. They just take themselves a little too seriously. I could have done without the detailed description of each plate set before us--we'd already ordered and knew what we were getting!

We ate dinner here twice, lured back by the shrimp and ___ primi which we HAD to try again. If you are looking for something a little different from the classic venetian fare, this is a good place. The signature shrimp appetizer is presented on a flat black platter, which really sets off the dish nicely. One night I had... More

Spent a wonderful evening at the restaurant - food was amazing along with an excellent drinks selection. Local beer was great with the food. We started with the spaghetti and had the hamburger before ending with some fantastic desserts.

After reading reviews was expecting more. Had soup to start with. Would not say it was home made, as tasted like a powered soup. Duck for main, perfectly cooked tasted lovely, but very very small portion of mash. Very small portion of crumble for dessert. We went away hungry and cost was twice as much as other restaurant we found.

We tried this restaurant as it was near our hotel and had good reviews. The food was nicely presented but two pasta dishes were served lukewarm. The restaurant was unfortunately lacking in atmosphere. We had far better meals during our stay in Venice.

As I've said elsewhere the constant stream of tourists to Venice means that many establishments become complacent and do not deliver high standards as a result. Ai Mercanti, is a pleasant exception to this rule. The welcome was warm as was the homemade bread and good wine was offered by the glass at reasonable prices. The service was attentive but... More
