Delicious, fresh and amazing!

I came to this restaurant following the reviews and it surprised me in a good way: The food was delicious and fresh. The staff was friendly and was a quiet escape from all the Busy restaurants. Would come there again for sure.

This place is amazing! A little hard to find but the seafood is fresh and delicious. The home made wine is great too and the service was great, really friendly people. I've loved the place and definitely will be back next time. Had a great time here! Make yourself a favor and enjoy this delicious food :]

Having heard of the owner's passion for ultra-fresh fish we popped in for some nicely-textured, rather bland raw sea-bass (even just an optional squeeze of lemon and pepper would have been welcome); robust cuttlefish with an unsupportive polenta and a slightly over-seasoned clam and spaghetti which was lifted with butter and garlic. The restaurant is situated behind a delightful water-level... More

Great place for a big portion of seafood spaghetti with a good salad. Hard to find and not much atmosphere. Fine for lunch.

went for a meal here with my husband and was really impressed with the food and drink, everything was delicious and very fresh. We had the spicy/chilli mussel and clam soup and to follow battered squid and a tomato and aubergine salad. I tried the home made white wine which slipped down a treat, and we finished our meal with a complimentary lemoncello... More

I never had a better meal, in all of my travels then at Al Fontego. I can't wait to go back to Venice and experience it all over again.

Every time I am in Venice, I always dine at Al Fontego because it is an amazing experience thanks to Signora Adriana and her family and the whole staff. Whether I've been away for a few months or a year, she and the others always remember me and greet me effusively. Adriana gave me a kiss on the cheek when... More

We went for a meal with a group and had such a good time we voted to go back again later in the week. The seafood was excellent, the wine inexpensive and the staff very friendly. Well recommended!

Me and my husband went to this restaraunt on the 23.10.14 after reading all the positive reviews online. We left very disappointed, and more then 100 eurous short. For this money we expected better food quality. Starters were ok. My husband ordered tuna and pasta for main, I could NOT see any tuna on his plate at all. And what... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
