Excellent pizza

The pizza was freshly made and excellent - service was good - not a lot more to add as it was a quick lunchtime visit. Fairly popular.

Reading previous reviews about this restaurant me and my boyfriend decided to give it a try. We were looking for afordable place with good food and not too many tourists and coming here we were not dissapointed. We ordered primo - lasagna and gnocchi with meat sauce - and secondo - both beef fillet with bacon and potatoes - and... More

This restaurant is located very close to one of the landmarks of Venice - Ponte Rialto. This usually means much higher prices and usually "less attention to the quality of the food". However, I'm happy to report this restaurant offers excellent food and the prices are very acceptable, considering the location. The lighting is somewhat dark, but overall atmosphere is... More

This place offers friendly and polite staff and great food for a very good price! We ordered Melon & Ham as a started and Spaghetti Carbonara (for my partner) and Lasagne (for myself) as main dish. Although we shared the starter the portions where so generous we didn't have any room for dessert ! The food is delicious and although... More

After all the good reviews I was expecting better. We walked specifically to this area for the restaurant. The waiter said our meal came with tiramisu but brought pannacotta instead. Wish we woulda kept wandering !

We set out to find another restaurant but on arriving found it too pricey and this was nearby. It was nothing special but equally there was nothing wrong with for the price. The waiter was efficient and friendly. You get what you pay for.

We have just finiashed dinner at the Barababao Restaurant. It's a tiny place, lost somewhere on the streets of Venice. We were elegantly and cheerfully greeted as soon as we reached and escorted to our table. Rock music from the 80s and 90s took us out of the Italian mood and into a concert. The food and the setting grabbed... More

I had put this place on my shortlist of places to visit after reading all the good reviews. It was packed when we walked past one evening to eat at a restaurant around the corner (Il Milion) so we thought it would be good. Oh I was wrong. Margherita pizza which was worse than an own brand cheapo frozen pizza... More

Venice is full of overpriced restaurants and this is not one of them. I had pasta in cuttlefish ink which was excellent, followed by beef on a bed of potatoes which was perfectly done. My wife had seafood soup - we cook many versions of this at home - and we agreed that it was spot on. She then ate... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
