Description: Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant...
Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It is one of the citys few still-thriving fritolini, precursors of todays fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Markets, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

Nice restaurant in Venice

Upon reccomendation we booked at this restaurant. The location is lovely and the decor is the typical Osteria. Service is really good and the host let us feeling welcomed. We had good starters and lovely linguine con scampi, spaghetti with saffron and turbot. I wasn't thrilled by the tiramisù, so... read more

Thanks to recommendation of a German food magazin "essen und trinken" I found my way to Vecio Fritolin. Everything was excellent, the food, the wine and attitude of the waiter and the owner. Throughout I felt pampered. The restaurant has also a beautiful interiour with everything hand picked and nicely arranged. It is located in a very interesting area of... More

On a rainy, cold and windy night we had a very good meal at the Vecio Fritolin. We were 4 persons and when I called to reserve the table, I was so happy they had one for us that I forgot to inform that one of us had a gluten allergy. No problem at the Vecio Fritolin! My friend got... More

A long, long time ago as a child I used to live in Calle della Regina and "Cice el fritolin" was an institution as the last "fritolin" (fish fryier) in Venice serving fried fish and polenta from huge copper pans at really rock bottom prices and free for the the poor. Nothing could be more different today. il "scartosso de pesse"... More

Dear Guest, as you write, it’s true that of the old ‘Vecio Fritolin’ remains the name, but we kept the same furniture and the possibility to take away the ‘scartosso de pesse’, as in the old times, that may be you didn’t noticed. Nowadays the ‘Vecio Fritolin’ has become a restaurant, very well known all over the world, where you... More

I booked this restaurant through mytable.com for a special New Years Eve dinner with my family. I received two confirmation emails from mytable.com to confirm my reservation. When I turned up at the restaurant I was told that they didn't have my reservation and the restaurant was full. It was busy evening, we had just arrived in Venice and didn't... More

Dear Lady, I am sorry for the inconvenience. I checked out several times for your reservation but I never found your request from mytable. I already sent my comunication to mytable to cancel my restaurant account from their website. The restaurant and the staff were great, the dishes were good but not impressive. The potato dumplings in the Gnocchi ai Frutti di Mare were lumpy and the Turbot dish was bland.

We visited with a small group on one of our photo holidays with Ventura. We have eaten in many local authentic restaurants in Venice serving excellent food at reasonable prices. So we were surprised at the prices. The wine list has some very expensive bottles but usually you can rely on a good value wine being on the menu -... More

Dear Sir, I do not agree with your comment. We are not the most expensive restaurant in Venice at all. We offer a good quality of the food and services and the wine list starts from 15 euro. We have menu a la carte and our traditional menu and our products are homemade. In our website you can find all... More

We went to this restaurant based on the recommendations of our travel agent and were so happy that we did! The food was fresh and cooked with love. Our favourite dish was the sardine with polenta appetizer. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the fish was paired beautifully with seasonal vegetables. The servers were wonderful!

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
