Description: Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It is one of the citys few still-thriving fritolini, precursors of todays fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Markets, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

We visited with a small group on one of our photo holidays with Ventura. We have eaten in many local authentic restaurants in Venice serving excellent food at reasonable prices. So we were surprised at the prices. The wine list has some very expensive bottles but usually you can rely on a good value wine being on the menu -... More

We went to this restaurant based on the recommendations of our travel agent and were so happy that we did! The food was fresh and cooked with love. Our favourite dish was the sardine with polenta appetizer. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the fish was paired beautifully with seasonal vegetables. The servers were wonderful!

Upon reccomendation we booked at this restaurant. The location is lovely and the decor is the typical Osteria. Service is really good and the host let us feeling welcomed. We had good starters and lovely linguine con scampi, spaghetti with saffron and turbot. I wasn't thrilled by the tiramisù, so weren't my 4 guests. Lastly I was a bit surprised... More

All food prepared on order, very authentic Venetian dishes with very fresh ingredients. Really best local I have eaten. However, if you are in a hurry, not place for you, serving is slow, perhaps some dishes take long to fully prepare from scratch, but I guess not to the extent of the time had to wait between servings. Little hard... More

Oh, boy. How lucky were we to find this place around the corner from our hotel near the San Stae vaporetto stop! Local, local Venetian fish. We shared a place of fritto misto -- perfectly fried shrimp, calamari, zucchini and other little sea creatures I couldn't identify, served with some grilled polenta. We watched as locals came in to order... More

The staff at Vecio Fritolin were extremely helpful at all times, more than willing to answer any questions and to assist us in choosing wine to suit our dish selection. The scallop starter was beautifully presented and definitely something I would choose again. The turbot was also delicious, served with homemade crisps and all was beautifully presented. A tip would... More

We booked on a Sunday night having been due to fly in at around 5pm. We actually arrived at 8.30pm and made it to the restaurant at 9.45pm. We kept them informed of our delay and they couldn't have been nicer especially as it was a quiet night for them. We were unrushed and easily the last people there. The... More

Authentic, very good food , very different from touristic menus in Venice. My dinner costed 50 euros. It´s not cheap, but worth the price
