Description: Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant...
Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It is one of the citys few still-thriving fritolini, precursors of todays fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Markets, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

In a touristic area an excellent and genuine choice for fish food

If you are around Venice and are quite rightly afraid to get global food under an allegedly Italian label, come and taste genuine fish food in a simple but stilish environment. Good value for money, follow chef's suggestions

More expensive than several places at which we ate in Venice it was default choice since a lot of restaurants were closed when we visited in August. Most of the dishes we average but they have some very good fish selections but they are expensive. The wines we had were about 15€ - good price and good quality. Staying away... More

We ate here twice in March. On the first, I had the paper cone filled with fritto misto (signature offering and there are folks who do walk away with it). It's served on a plate of course and it was so good that we returned another day for dinner so my wife could have it. Not that there aren't many... More

We celebrated a birthday in this Restaurant and came with friends. We had excellent meals and a very attentive waiter. Recommendations for food: Try the green eggs and the Avocado+ carrot starters. Wow!! As mains we had fish (catch of the day) and Pasta - also extremely well cooked! For dessert we can recommend the Tiramisu! If we come back... More

i was on my own in Venice doing some research, and eating out in the evening is always a bit daunting. My hotel recommended Al Vecio Fritolin, but when i turned up on Saturday evening at 8.40 they were full. On Sunday the hotel rang and booked a table for me, and it was a treat. i had a vast... More

went there to dinner while on a recent weekend trip with my wife. nice setting, nice location, hidden from all, kinda hard to find, food good, service good, but it was early and not busy. prices are a little high for the place, we all know Venice is tough, but it should all come together at some point.

This was a great dinner that even changed my mood. It had not been a great day (issues with the hotel booking, foggy Venice -you could not see two steps ahead, horrible experience at lunch -another quite different review written for another restaurant...) until we decided to have dinner at Vecio Fritolin a bit by chance. We had read a... More

Thanks to recommendation of a German food magazin "essen und trinken" I found my way to Vecio Fritolin. Everything was excellent, the food, the wine and attitude of the waiter and the owner. Throughout I felt pampered. The restaurant has also a beautiful interiour with everything hand picked and nicely arranged. It is located in a very interesting area of... More

On a rainy, cold and windy night we had a very good meal at the Vecio Fritolin. We were 4 persons and when I called to reserve the table, I was so happy they had one for us that I forgot to inform that one of us had a gluten allergy. No problem at the Vecio Fritolin! My friend got... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
