Lovely place but gets busy in the evening

We read about this restaurant in our guide book and luckily it was just a few minutes walk from our hotel so we decided to give it a try. We'd read that reservations are often necessary so arrived promptly at 7.30pm when it opened, good job we did as within 20 minutes of our arrival they were... read more

A nice little Italien restaurant a bit away from the busy streets. It was packed with people in the middle of the week but they have a lot of seats so we just had to wait 5-10 min. Only Italien menue but the staff could help you out. A lot to choose and a food wine list. Greate value of... More

This is a traditional trattoria, near the Londra Palace hotel. You need to reserve a table or wait outside because it´s busy. Specialty is fish. I tried grilled shrimps with cooked vegetables and they brought all the correct cutlery C(2 special tools) to open and take the most of the meat, which is difficult to access if they are not... I cannot believe I have never submitted a review for Da Remigio. It was recommended to us by a Venetian living in London and following a fabulous first visit, (many years ago), it has been a “must visit” destination, on our trips to Venice. There are some things you need to be aware of. It is primarily a fish restaurant.... More

It's not so easy to find a good place to eat in Venice, there are many touristic places but this is a really Italian place with very good food (we took fish dishes as they were delicious and fresh)!!! Very recommended!!!! The first place I will go in Venice next time!

This restaurant could easily be the Hell's kitchen of Venice and I am actually surprised by the positive reviews.... This is a proper tourist trap ! My wife and I were attracted first by the many (old) tags displayed on the window pane of the restaurant... in France and in Italy these are normally proof of quality! We should have... More

Guide book suggestion but didn't hear English around us (good sign). Turns out Our waiter was the owner. What treat. Great food, service and stories. We went back three times during our 10 day stay.

We were recommended this place by some local Italian friends, and we were delighted with the meal! We went for lunch, and yes, we had a reservation because we didn't want to chance not getting in. It's a little tricky to finds he restaurant , but well worth the trouble. We didn't look at a menu, we simply put ourselves... More

Stumbled upon this place for our last lunch in Venice. Near St Marks Square but just before it gets really touristy. Obviously a well established place, with waiters smartly dressed and efficient - even if a bit brusque at times! However happy to translate the menu for us. Food was extremely tasty - their gnocchi melted in the mouth. I... More

Away from the crowds and touristy venue around St Marks this is a traditional Venetian trattoria near San zaccaria church. The service and atmosphere is semi formal: professional waiters is white jackets who look they have been working here for a while provide efficient service. The menu is attractive with plenty of choice: we had 6 plates which were all... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
