Fish at its best

Antiche Carampane is a truly exciting restaurant. Not a fancy place, but enjoyable with friendly and competent staff. The fish carpaccio tops by far what you usually get under this name. Antiche Carampane is something like a "hidden secret" with excellent feedback from the Lonely Planet. Well - it is indeed an excellent location fro fresh seafood but it's no secret anymore. Service is flawelss and preparation and quality of the seafood is excellent. Reasonnably priced - however not inexpensive. Be prepared to be there with only tourists and no locals.... More

I could list a multitude of failings with this place however I would urge you to look at the bad reviews. Most of what the bad reviews say were borne out in our visit. I fully expect some vitriolic reply from the owner who it appears is unable to take criticism or except that his restaurant is not perfect. He... More

Overall solid venetian food in a well managed family restaurant. Focus is on fried fresh seafood and sardine pasta.

Sought- out this restaurant after reading about it in the New York Times. And, after a couple of days of eating at some -- albeit good -- touristy restaurants, I was desiring some more gourmet in nature. Trekked through the hoardes of tourists in Venice. God, Bless my Soul until we finally found this restaurant. I scan through the menu,... More

Dear Sir, I'm sorry that you had this impression but the story is just a little bit different: 1) You came at 7.00 PM for see the Menù, your wife asked for a menù in english, after reading the menù, you gone away without saying anything and without booking the table. You came back after 40 minutes asking for the... More

We went here as it was so highly rated. The staff are arrogant and do not add to a desirable atmosphere. The service is indeed poor and I would add that we thought it was very poor. Just because you are supposed to serve excellent food is no excuse for abruptness and screaming ly slow service. Scallops overcooked and stuck... More

Dear customer , I prefer not to comment your review because I feel too much hate , rancor and too many bad things said just after eating in a restaurant . The only thing that consoles me , is that all the reviews that you have made on tripadvisor are very negative , so we are in good company .... More

This well hidden restaurant in S. Polo is very popular, specially with Americans, but not always living up to its reputation. The antipasti are overpriced and the secondi well made but not inventive or special. The pasta though is always exceptional. If you sit outside you miss the buzz and pleasant atmosphere created by friendly owners and maintained by the... More

When we first started going to this restaurant a twelve years ago or so there was no menu and no one spoke English, it was full of locals and had a great buzz. Even today Francesco's English is only as good as my Italian but Mina's is great. It is dreadfully difficult to get a table but they fitted us... More

We had done some research into the restaurants of Venice as there are so many to choose from! We wanted good quality seafood and this restaurant was ranked very highly by the Daily Telegraph. Of the reviews we had read several mentioned the 'grumpy' attitude of the owner and the difficulty getting a table in this popular restaurant but most... More

Great, fresh seafood. Amazing service from the entire staff of the restaurant. As we learned later, we were very lucky to get reservations, so plan early. The location is not easy to find, but well worth the time to search it out. If you're unsure on what to order, just ask the staff for their recommendations, everything they recommended for... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
