Wasn't at all like I remembered it.

I remembered a restaurant that was full of life, and had wonderful "pulpe" dishes. But that was about 10 years ago. Now I found it rather dull, quiet, and the food mediocre. It seems to be the place for leftovers, if you want to pay for that. The only plus was the waiter, who was very good... read more

We found this up a side street not far from the Teatre de Fenice. The menu varies from day to day. Not for those who want pizza or pasta but if you want to sample well cooked regional specialities with good service this is the place for you. Our waiter took the time to explain what each dish consisted of... More

Lovely restaurant in a quite street. Popular with locals. Servings were generous and I quite like the idea of varying th menu everyday.

After reading some of the reviews that commented on the service, we were a little apprehensive about going here--but SO GLAD WE DID. Our waiter, Tommaso, was friendly and fun. And the food was outstanding! We ordered the mixed seafood appetizer plate and it was excellent! The food is authentic and not your normal tourist fare by any means. Highly... More

The food, service and atmosphere were in a word Tremendous! The waiter was so helpful and patient and made us feel right at home in this wonderful piece of Venice. The Buffalo Mozzarella to start and the Meatballs/Veal/Oerechette were all outstanding. Desert was as if we were in Heaven.

Now be honest, how could you resist going for dinner in a restaurant called "The Assassins" in the street of the Assassins? Named after an infamous street of old Venice - and, actually, the first street to be torch-lit due to its seedy reputation, this is a super restaurant patronised by locals - especially families. Booking in the evenings is... More

I love that the menu changes daily according to what's fresh and available, I was not a fan of the service. The owner (manager?) acted like we were doing him a favor by dining there. The food is fresh and simple (very Italian) and everyone else who served us was lovely, but not the owner. Is it something to write... More

The number of Venetians eating here is a good sign. A far cry from the tourist traps, for better and for worse. Excellent local food, cooked with great skill so as not to interfere with the flavours of very carefullly chosen fresh ingredients just off the boat (or the field). Don't expect bow ties or white gloves, and you will... More

Regrettably, we ate at this restaurant last night. The male waiter was extremely unhelpful and when we asked him for assistance with explaining the menu, his attitude made us feel like we were taking up his precious time. He was rude and dismissive. The only reason we stayed was because it was getting late and we were tired of trying... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
